Announcer has no clue about Acaden Lewis. She just said Kentucky was in a good spot to land him LOL
I love how they assign people to do games that have no business being there. Don’t even do cursory levels of research. I’m shocked she didn’t say him and Jasper would be a great backcourt together next year.

I think he will be ok defender with right coach

Just need to be taught by Pope, also need to add muscle. Pope really needs to modify Jasper's attitude in many details of game

At least he has bigger "size" than dilly/shep
But he doesn't sound nearly as fundamentally sound d as either

Ladies played at 4pm est. We had one commit in this game - Kaelyn Carroll. Looks like you can watch the replay in the link I provide below.

Jasper Johnson playing now too.

Boys link:

Girls link:

saw the las 6 or so minutes of the 4thQ and then the ridiculous elam rules ending....the women announcers were not very good...and I am shocked none of the players decked the morons running around behind them with a mic screaming in their ear

Johnson. 100%. Still just an all star game, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish we retained his talent.
I mean all we could retain this year was the 3 Freshman, BG and Oweh and Pope's 100% so far and will be as long as O comes back. I'm not counting KK going to 6th team in 6yrs and the injury situation

How do you know there isn't a difference?
Past history.
There's what the media wants you to believe, and what really happens. Media builds those 5 stars up to be automatically good from day 1. After about 5 or 6 players in the rankings, there are very little difference in the top 100 kids. Those 5 or 6 are ready year one and that's mostly it. The highschool ranking system falls in love with athleticism not skill set

It isn’t just the all star game. Do your homework. Watch some of his OTE games and the Nike Hoop Summit. He has a body of work that proves he has no interest in playing defense for any length of time.
I guess I should give up on Jasper before he gets to campus because a high school kid used to being the superstar of his team isn’t an elite defender.

Most high school kids are bad at defense, and the ones who aren’t usually do it more with overwhelming athleticism compared to their high school peers than fantastic fundamentals.

Jasper will be fine. The tools are there.

I watched from the 18 minute mark in the 2nd half till the 3 minute mark. JJ did not keep one guy in front of himself. He did not really switch on guys much, he just stood out at the 3 (except a couple of rebounds, one which was taken away and scored on him). He just looked like he did not care. The announcer said something about him having a good first half (i am guessing offense) but do not know. I am hoping he is just not trying to get hurt and just playing the minimum he can. Others were the same way. Acuff looks like he is very fast but he is a horrible teammate at least on these events. He is a Cal guy for sure. Boozers had a bad game tonight, broke my heart, lol.
It’s an all star game. No one plays defense in those

I imagine Jasper hasn't had a whole hell of a lot of instruction the past year on fundamentals, including defense, in OTE. This is the same with most, including Dilly. I think the league is just glorified AAU ball and can teach some really bad habits. Just a year of seeing who can show out, basically.

Imagine IF JJ comes in very poor defensively. He'll lose lots of key moments on the floor and the coaches will be telling him why. Then he'll very likely put in the work and improve. There is a journey for each player and based on his reputation as a person he'll probably wind up excellent on both sides of the ball, but nobody can predict the timeline for that.

Maybe he will put in the work or he could just pull up stakes and move on. Who knows how guys will react now days

I'm still shaking my head at how the progressive announcing team made Kentucky seem like some Low Major program and the only way they could get a player like Jasper Johnson was due to his family lineage attending the school. It would've been less insulting if they both just took a dump on a UK jersey than the BS they spewed.

I'll admit Acaden is a bigger loss that I thought
Kid is Rondo lite with that wingspan and court vision.
I wish he had bet on himself and challenged Lowe for the PG spot.

I've been saying he is underrated. Most on here thought we shouldn't count on him. Which made him move on! It's a risk/reward. But he has a higher ceiling then Lowe or any other portal pieces.

Same goes for Johnson!

He’s definitely a big loss, it’s just a shame he was scared off by Lowe! He woulda had all the opportunity and had 18-20 mpg to make his case to play more. Such a shame he ran from competition

I am sure they graduated from Duke. The only program worthy of getting any player.

If we had kept Lewis and didn’t sign Lowe, everyone would be complaining because we were starting a Freshman PG.

We can’t have it both ways.
