Was not expecting him back, but was not expecting this either. Guess his minutes would have been less. Maybe Keels coming? I always liked him, and I wish him well. Thank you for 4 years of hard work. Can we assume this means Steward is back? Mr. Keels some playing time just opened up. Hopefully this is the last transfer.

I'm not sure if I'd rather have Keels or a 5th year Goldwire. Depends on how good Keels is his first year. Could have used the leadership, but Roach, Steward, Keels (I hope) and Moore helping out will be enough. We do need to add one more guard.

And all this is on the hopes that steward don’t test the waters. I have a feeling if he does we will loose steward as well.

If we have to go with Roach and Keels we are going to struggle. I guess Roach and Moore could work. If we lost Steward we would need a transfer, but I doubt he'd be as good as Steward.

Look at it like this, Duke would have Moore, Roach, Possibly Keels and Possibly Steward . If you had to sale Keels on the fact he would get playing time. You’d have to do so with another point guard as well and the front court is stacked with Paolo, Griffin, Williams Possibly Coleman and Moore Not to mention should Duke land Baldwin.

I don’t think Steward is the back up. I’d give that spot to Moore. I’m 50/50 on Steward even returning at the moment .

Moore as the back up guard scares me. Dudes a turn over machine and his ball handling skills are weak. Staff is in a really bad position here.with 2 scholarship guards on the roster, a freshman keels is not what we need for success next year. I hope the staff is looking at acquiring 1-2 transfer guards. Would be a nice mix of youth and experience.

goldwire transferring is odd imo.

Roach, Steward, Keels and a transfer would be perfect. Steward and Williams back are key to next year. Otherwise we'd just be patching together a team again.

Odd indeed, but would make more sense when we know of his next destination

Not expecting this at all. Don't really understand it because plenty of minutes would be his next season. Oh well, best of luck Goldy.

Moore was the secondary ball handler most times on the court. Steward is not the answer either but I don’t see Duke attracting another guard unless they are fine with being a situational player. Like I said, if Keels comes to Duke he’s coming wanting playing time the same will be said if Duke lands a transfer guard. All the names in the transfer portal so far are looking for increase in time on the court when you read about them.

If you read what some posters have posted about him over four years and you were in his shoes a fresh start with out harsh criticism will be good. Imo, he excelled each year while at Duke for being a three star guard hardly recruited.

I love Goldwire but perhaps Duke is looking to upgrade the talent in the backcourt after this season. So looking at bringing in say, Keels and a transfer. That would cut into his minutes. Of course if Steward leaves then this makes no sense to me. But I'm not him.

Would not be surprised if any of these things happen if the right player comes along:
- transfer
- PG/CG gets added to the 2021 class

again only if the player checks all the boxes for what K sees as Duke needing

Bobby Pettiford is a very good PG prospect. I was hoping that he would sign with my Tar Heels, but it seems unlikely with the announcement that Caleb Love is returning

Yeah that could definitely be part of it. To me he did more than anyone expected of him and had some big games and Big plays when we needed it. Disappointed we couldn't send him out with a better senior season.

Well, this is disappointing. Love this kid. He gave us everything he had for 4 years. Deserved a better ending than the last two years. I wish him only the best.

We could also use an upperclassman from the transfer portal especially with Jordan leaving. Not sure what type of school that he ends up at. Imagine the assumption is that he ends up at a mid major, but could see him going to UGA, UF, Arkansas or UT.

The only question would be would he not be in a similar role where he’s being used as a defensive stopper. I’m assuming that he stays around the East Coast, but would to see him play for a coach like Chris Beard who’s puts some of the best defensive units on the court every year.

Yeah, I’d like to send him out on a Senior night in a packed Cameron. I could still see him ending up coming back if K puts pressure on him. One thing we’ve learned is just because you put your name in the portal doesn’t mean you’re definitely gone.

We could use experience. Hard not to notice the number of juniors and seniors in the Baylor Nova game. Baylor starting 2 seniors and 3 juniors. That's similar to our 2010 team, which had 3 seniors and 2 juniors starting.

I just don’t get this. I’ll trust the staff. But K loves his upperclassmen leaders. Why would he transfer when most of us recognize the need for another guard/point guard?

I can only speculate he knows who’s coming and perhaps he felt slighted about his playing time this year. And maybe he knows who’s coming.

At face value I still don’t get it though.

He averaged 28.5 minutes a game which is third on the team. Can’t see why he would feel slighted.
He played 3rd most minutes per game but was 7th highest scorer on team. He contributed greatly with his steals and defense. Nonetheless I would have liked to have seen him play 15 minutes a game next year as captain and leader of the team.

I think all coaches and players are spinning right now trying to figure out what their rosters will look like next season. Players are transferring left and right.

leaves the returning upper classman as Moore and Baker ( if Hurt leaves as expected) - sobering thought. Transfers a must for some senior experience.

We need to get more aggressive recruiting transfers. It has paid off for schools like Gonzaga and Baylor. Times are changing and so must we.

I’d love to know what his long term aspirations are. Will he go to a smaller school to score more and possibly increase chances of going overseas and getting paid for a a few years? I could have easily seen him as an assistant coach with his basketball IQ etc but this decision seems to make me think he has no interest in that. Def not burning a bridge per se but seems hard to think he’d be back as a bench coach after transferring out. Odd decision for sure but I wish him the beat of luck. He earned everything he got here no doubt.
