Assuming you are not being sarcastic, I will take that wager,. Screenname bet?
You're at a bit of a disadvantage since you only follow one of the teams but I follow them both.

Your best chance at winning the bet is for Northwestern to make the Dance this season. I don't think that's going to happen; I think they'll make the NIT. They don't have any quality wins and I don't see how this team will get enough this season to punch their ticket to the Dance...

But I hope I'm wrong! If I were to take your bet and actually want to win, that would mean that I would not be cheering for the 'Cats to make the Dance this season, and I don't want to do that.

If you want to have a wager AFTER this season, if the 'Cats don't make the Dance, then we can talk.

Next season is a rebuilding year for the 'Cats. We lose Pardon and Law.

UTEP is young. Three of their starters are freshmen, including Lathon. One of those freshman starters, Efe Odigie, is averaging a double-double. One of the remaining two starters, their leading scorer, is a sophomore. The talent is there and they're only going to get better; the team just doesn't have the depth this year with few senior leaders and with a new coach.

UTEP's coach, Rodney Terry, is in his first year at UTEP. Last season, he was at Fresno St., the same Fresno St. that wiped the floor with Northwestern earlier this season. He voluntarily left Fresno St. for UTEP. I wonder why he did that?

UTEP is going to be pretty strong in a couple of years, based on what I'm seeing this season.

UTEP has a solid basketball tradition and they don't have any academic standards that can get in the way of their recruiting.

That darn UTEP program - they have all those secret society guys that did all those things that the common folks will never know about - but UTEP will be dancing while NU holds strong in their morality to avoid all those secret wrongs...

Someone said Lathom would cause an uproar - seemingly, some parts of this country still believe innocent til proven guilty, no such proof has been unveiled yet and Lathom is simply a very good freshman that will probably evolve into an even better veteran player for UTEP - no public uproars anywhere to be seen. While we continue to struggle to find guards from our high horse and might un-American horse.

I will take this bet anytime you like. They didn't take Jordan Lathon because they are a promising program...

And I follow a LOT of college basketball teams.

Lathon had 7 points in 34 minutes in a loss at UAB last night so he's no Romeo Langford, but he certainly would have helped us this year.

If you want to take a bet after this season, then we can talk. I don't particularly want to own your screen name but if you're questioning the sincerity of my prediction then I would go through with it.

But not until after this season. UTEP is not going dancing this season, but Northwestern still has an outside chance. A really long shot, but it's there. So if I took your bet right now, you would be putting me in a position that protecting my screen name would be at odds with my desire to see Northwestern make the Dance. This season, I just want to cheer on Northwestern in all their games and hope they can pull off enough upsets down the stretch without this nagging thought in the back of my mind that Northwestern's success comes at the cost of my screen name. I don't want to tarnish any enjoyment I would experience from Northwestern's success.

I am a life-long UTEP fan. I am from El Paso. I seriously doubt you follow a LOT of college basketball teams the way I follow UTEP. So, if you're still set on this bet, AFTER this season, I have one caveat if I lose: you can't make me choose a screen name that denigrates UTEP in any way. You can't make me choose a handle like "UTEPsux" or anything along those lines. This is the same screen name I use when I post on the UTEP board, and I won't accept a screen name that would upset people at the UTEP board.

AFTER this season, it's a matter of which school better executes their rebuild. UTEP has a one-year head start and I'm thrilled with the young talent they have. I'm sold on the coach and his recruiting abilities. Best-case scenario, for me, is that UTEP and Northwestern both make the Dance in the same season and then we both keep our screen names. I'm not going to cheer for one team at the expense of the other.

Honestly the fact that you think NU still has a chance to make the Dance this season makes you probably one of the three most optimistic posters on this forum.

I'll take your screenname wager this season, next season, five years from now, or whenever you like. Heck, I'm fairly confident that Rutgers will make the dance before UTEP does again..UTEP's program completely fell off a cliff; even if their new coach is the second coming of John Wooden, their rebuild is the mother of all rebuilds, and it won't be accomplished by taking players that get kicked out of other schools and no one else will take, imo. And don't get me started on Tim Floyd...

Hardly the mother of all rebuilds. Not even UTEP's worst. Look up Billy Gillispie's first season with UTEP. (Then look up his second.)

"and it won't be accomplished by taking players that get kicked out of other schools and no one else will take, imo."

Right. Evan Gilyard (sophomore), Efe Odigie (freshman averaging a double-double), and Nigel Hawkins (freshman) are all averaging more points than freshman Lathon. And we'll see what the next recruiting class brings in.

You seem confident. When are we wagering?

If holding to standards is a high horse, then I'm riding a high horse. Unless you have direct knowledge of whatever was involved, you have no clue about what led Northwestern to drop him. Since he was the incoming point guard, it obviously was something they didn't take lightly.

He’s a freshman. Most college frosh do not excel. We place unfair expectations on ours because we always are in need of a savior.

Next up Beran.

Kinda like fake moon landing, second shooter on the grassy knoll and Sasquatch. It ain’t a high horse that your on, it’s the Kings clothes that your in.
