Here's what confuses me. We ask these players to take ownership of the team, to patrol it like Wistrom and Peter did in the late '90's and get all of their peers walking the same line by whatever means necessary. We call for a revival of the Unity Council (although I don't think I've seen that request yet this fall) and the players having more input on personnel decisions/repercussions along with it. But when the players have input on jersey and pant combos, that's a bridge too far.

You're right and I get the point you are trying to make, but the difference between the ownership of the players in the 90s and the ownership of these players is that in the 90s they weren't worried about something wussy like how they looked. All the cared about was holding each other accountable for getting **** done and kicking *** on the field. Ownership today evidently means deciding what looks cute and telling the staff where and when you want to play or you're leaving. (I realize this doesn't just happen at nebraska, but I doubt it flies at places like Bama and LSU)
That would be one major difference between players in the past and players today.

So I suppose our DEs in the mid-90s exposed their midriffs because it it gave less fabric for the OL to hold? Remember ripping the helmet off after a TD so everyone can see them? The "Fat and Nasty" undershirt on a DT (Raemakers?)? Kids (college or high school) have always cared about how they appear...they just have more avenues/options to show it now.

So This is who Coach was talking about might be moving on for more playing time. It all makes sense now.
