Josh Heird - Time to move forward!

Josh Heird stepped into a very complicated situation and appears to have handled things extremely well. He seems to have great communications skills, organizational skills and the ability to solve problems and make right decisions. He worked his way up in college athletics and has the connections and the respect of his fellow peers. It appears he has the respect and the backing of the UL Coaches, the UL Student Athletes, former players and a large percent of the fan base.

I say it is time to "quit asking the question of who our next AD should be when the answer is right in front of us"?

Josh? But yes I agree. Josh Heird is the way to go and earned his keep.

@Sawyer it doesn't look like your thread is getting much traction, so I'm here to help... :)

Heird would be the perfect clown show hire, guaranteed to keep things running the way they are. He's about as qualified as the last clown we had in that job, and it's hard to quantify the impact that guy made.

There are several candidates out there who could change our course, maybe get better coaches and more money, start a return to where we used to be. But if you're happy where we are, Josh Heird is your guy...

He hasn’t done anything to prove he deserves the job except hire the guy you wanted. That doesn’t mean the guy he hired will be successful, as a Louisville fan I hope he is.

Just curious Zipp, have you met Josh and had a chance to talk to him? He is a pretty impressive young man and the Villanova folks speak very highly of him. Jurich did make some good hires while at UL and Josh appears to be one of them in spite of the cast of Clown Show characters you reference so often. He certainly seems to managing the athletic department better than our last AD. Where we are today beats where we were the last three years.

I’m not big on meeting and greeting as a job reference, granted that’s what an interview is. But you and I don’t have a clue how to interview an AD. As a fan, I’m relying strictly on our experience and needs.

Our experience is that nothing good has recently come out of U of L athletics. Why would I expect Heird to change that? (I don’t.) And Heird isn’t a product of the former regime. He left U of L apparently with Jurich’s endorsement. I don’t recall a prized U of L staffer leaving U of L athletics and making a name for himself elsewhere.

All we know factually is that Tyra brought Heird back. And we know in hindsight how good that clown’s judgment was.

We can’t afford to make more big mistakes with key hires. We’re outta time and money…

Curious, who hired Kragthorpe, and Petrino the second time....just curious.

I was hoping they would have gone after Todd Stewart of Western Kentucky. He has plenty of experience, a good fund raiser and a charismatic personality. It is just a matter of time before an SEC school takes him away from WKU.

Always love data picking. It's how you disprove anything statistically (he said with tongue in cheek).

But those aren't really even on point... Again, no one with promise that I easily recall left U of L athletics and succeeded elsewhere. K-rag and Petrino are NOT examples otherwise...

Cronin UCLA and Davenport down the road in hoops. Not bad! How bout Pitino at Iona?

Petrino did very well at Arky in football. Why don't Petrino's years at Arky count? Brohm did well at wku and doing ok at Purdue.

Off the top, a couple of those guys--Pitino and Petrino--didn't exit while Jurich was in the AD job. And I'm not sure they still wouldn't be at Louisville if Jurich was here.

While the rest worked in athletics, they didn't work directly in Jurich's operation. They worked under successful head coaches that didn't appear to be going anywhere. Jeff Brohm is the only example you offer of someone who was mishandled, and Jurich would likely agree with that in hindsight.

There are no administrators I know of like Julie Hermann and Gary Friedman who left and starred elsewhere. If they had big time potential, Jurich kept them here as any good manager would try to do.

Heird was just a face in the crowd at U of L a decade ago who was eligible for future promotions. Of course, he worked alongside of pretty capable people at that time and maybe felt his chances of promotion were likewise affected. No one could blame him for leaving for that reason. But if he's shining against the backdrop of how this operation performs now, that has to be considered. Otherwise, you're just picking the best person you have to continue what we're doing--which is obviously not getting us anywhere...

I think I missed the context/timeframe part of the point you were making, was just answering a casual who moved on and did okay type of question you posed.

I'm probably not concentrating enough, kind of multi tasking. I'm not sure what point you are making. And I'm not trying to be rude. How many people have left KU, Villanova, or UNC, UK, Virginia, or Baylor lately and been successful at other places? I think none but maybe I'm wrong. Who are the successful people from other programs packing their bags and doing great somewhere else? What is the point of the "They aren't moving on doing great somewhere else" angle when this angle isn't really a thing? Or maybe I'm missing your point altogether. Could be.

I'm not sure Josh is the right AD either, there's no data to back that up yet. Not saying he's wrong either.

Josh has said more than once that his goal has always been to become an AD. When he left UL for Villanova wasn’t Mark Jurich moving moving his way up the ladder at UL. That might have influenced his decision leave.
