Being plugged for the job by USA Today Senior Beat writer. Say it is time to get out of Tennessee.

The Penn State job? He's not doing that bad at UT to be honest. It's just that there is a very vocal part of the fanbase with zero patience. I wouldn't want Heupel, but I bet Arkansas would take him.

Will get a solid five years before that. Be honest.
No. Not really. Lots of criticism started with losses during the sanctions, mainly MD and Temple. And the student section started chanting “Fire Franklin” at halftime of the 2016 Minny game. I’m just pointing out the reality. Some people don’t want to accept that there’s that subset of our fanbase.

Some people just need things to write about. Is that writer a Tennessee fan who isn't happy with Heupel?

I actually been thinking he might be a possibility the last few days. The seat at Tennessee is getting hot for him. I am kinda 50/50 with him. Wouldn't hate it but not my first choice either. It would be nice to have an offense that actually throws the ball downfield for once. His problem always seems to be defense and stopping other teams. They score 35 points but give up 42.

Shouldn’t be so hot. He resurrected the program from previous hires like Butch Jones, Derek Dooley and Jeremy Pruitt and the end of the Fulmer era. Plus he is only in year 5.

One problem is Tim
Banks as DC.

Gotta give him credit for holding the line with Nico over the NIL and salvaging the season with Aguilar. This could very easily been a lost year and he has managed to keep them very competitive in the SEC.

A subset of our fanbase? When I read these boards, it makes me think that the subset of the fanbase is the group who didn't criticize Franklin or call for him to be fired year after year.

I’ve heard some increased chatter about him. Solid coach and with the 7th ranked recruiting class on 247 - wedged between the Bucks and UT - he’d probably help refill this disappearing class with even better talent

This is almost as absurd as the Dabo Swinney rumor. Why would Penn State want Tennessee‘s scraps? We wouldn’t.

It’s very funny to see outsiders peddling coaches to the PSU fan base.

Careful - there are many homers here who think the Big top to bottom is just as good as the SEC
All they have to do is look at the schedules next year
Tennessee plays Ga Tech in non conference play vs us playing Temple or Marshall (pick one)
Then Tennessee plays Bama, Texas, A&M, South Carolina & LSU plus Vandy and South Carolina
We play Michigan and USC as our toughest games...maybe Washington?

You just have to laugh at these beat writers getting extra $$$ in their Venmo accounts by penning "articles" paid for by certain agents.

Huepel and the other recent name Sitake would be far better than Chesney and Smith.

Sounds like you are criticizing a coach to me...
Nope. It is highly unlikely anyone who frequents here would ever criticize a coach. Heupel would at least be a solid hire. Does he promise "excellence at the highest level," or is he destined to bring the NC to PSU that Kraft promised? Krafty sure laid down a pretty impossible task for a mere mortal to achieve.
If he brings some players, PSU should win at least 9 games next season....it's the weakest schedule they will ever see in conference. No OSU, Oregon or Indiana (and Indiana may recenter by the time PSU sees them again). I'm only counting meaningless wins, but the 10th would be over Michigan and we could rejoice in that win.
I would focus more on why Heupel is making a lateral move and will Kraft keep meddling or let him run his program.
