I just don’t get it. Pope showed last season that he can coach with a much less talented team than this one.
Last year's players had a lot more dawg in them than any player on our team this year. We are just too soft and that mirrors our coach.

JQ couldn’t camp under the hoop with Bama stretching the floor. Even when he did he got out worked for some balls and didn’t impact shots.

Not holding it against him. Going to take time getting back in the swing of things. Especially if you believe Pope in just how bad he tore that knee up
JQ has not shown us that he is a rim protector in any game. He may be physically healed but mentally it is a different story. This will take time to mentally forget that you have had knee reconstruction. I had ACL surgery in 1968 and knee replacement in 2010. You will physically heal much faster than mentally. Let's give JQ more time.

The kids only been back for basically 2 games. Let’s cut him some slack and give him some time to get in shape. The problem is that now that he’s available, he needs to start and get as many minutes as possible. Same with Lowe. This team could be effective with Lowe-Oweh-Williams-Mo and JQ starting and playing the majority of minutes. Play that 3/4 court trapping press with Kam on the nose of it and JQ protecting the rim. Create turnovers. We are near the bottom in the NCAA in that category. That’s horrible use of the athletes on this team. To be good we have to shut teams down and get our offense off turnovers.

Rim protection isn't JQ's strength on defense. He can do it, but he isn't a prolific shot blocker. He's strong and moves well for his size.

He had more success against St. Johns because they tried to attack him 1v1 in post ups. Bama barely tries to do post ups. It was a totally different defensive challenge for him.

From what I can tell, his job so far is to be like the 5th most important offensive piece in making decisions with the ball. Meaning he's there to get hustle points and try to finish from passes. He hasn't been integrated or trusted to be a decision maker with the ball on offense. That's pretty much what his dad alluded to on twitter.

Why does everyone say that last year’s team was a lot less talented? We are about half way through the season and I haven’t seen evidence of that yet.
Here is the breakdown of player to players

- Butler to Lowe....I'd easily argue Butler is more talented...and he's a tougher kid
- Amari Williams to Quantance/Moreno. I see your point here....Amari is better passer, stronger, can drive it better from high post and finished a ton better thus far. I think people are enamored with Drexel recruit vs. 2 McD AA kdis
- Diabate to Carr......I'd argue Diabate is way better athlete, stronger kid....but Carr has better shooting/moves in post
- Aberdeen to Brea.....Brea will always be an elite shooter. Aberdeen has been a major dissapointment...and that falls a ton on Pope isn't putting him in best situation.
- Jasper/Kam Williams to Jaxon Robinson.....hard call. I think Jasper/Kam are superior athletes but bbal IQ is crazy low.
- Travis Perry/Almonsor......Better shooters but way limited in all other parts of game vs. current backups.

All in all, we took a major step back from Amari Williams, Lamont Butler and Brea.....

Andrew Carr or Lamont Butler would instantly be the best player on this team.

If they hadn't of been hurt, Carr was really never the same after his back problem. Lamont was a bad a.ss before his shoulder injury. Jaxon Robinson also, damn bad luck for sure.
I really believe last year's team was final four good without injuries.

see thats another problem with pope teams, guys like that should never be a best player

Give me those guys any year, they were winners. A healthy Butler was a great point guard, and tough as they come.
Loved that team, wish this years were as good, and played as hard.

There were several times tody when JQ tried to get into a pick and roll but they never passed him the ball. That's not his fault.
Yessir, I counted about 6 times JQ had an EASY drop down dunk off the high screen, and JL didn’t even raise his head to see the floor, and instead went iso like he did nonstop at Pitt!

Alabama was a donut hole to start with. Then they get 2 bigs hurt. Yet we don't pound it inside? I would be pissed too if I'm the best post player in college basketball and you don't use me against a donut hole.
What has JQ done to make you think that he’s the best post player in college basketball? He has no shot outside 2 feet that I’ve seen.

Bama has the shooters to keep us unbalanced, we do not have the shooters to get him simple 1v1 looks.
But kids wanna blame everyone else these days instead of going to work.
No one caused you to miss all those free throws or to get beat by a backup center 2 or 3 times, you did that all on your own.

A 8 or 9 point 6 rebound with a few more blocks would look much better on his resume and he could have easily done that. And he got a rebound taken away from him like a baby off a free throw attempt (I threw my hat accross the room on that one).
Be mad at Pope for not creating a perfect system is one thing, but his camp needs to see he could play better. We are not blaming him, we know it takes time but don't be babies about it when your guy is still not up to game speed.
