In my very humble opinion Brown has placed too much trust on just two running backs. Seems other teams can go deep with hardly any drop off in performance. A good JUCO back would have a great opportunity at WVU.
Development of a "bankrupt program". The LYING never stops in order to try to prop up someone that is underperforming false projections.
Here are some recruiting rankings that gives FACTS to blow up the false narrative of Brown's troubles being due to inheriting a "bankrupt" program:

2016 recruiting rankings by team--WVU via ESPN

2017 recruiting rankings by team--WVU via ESPN

2018 recruiting rankings by team--WVU via ESPN

Brown isn't doing anything special on the recruiting trail in comparison to the previous coaching staff and didn't receive a "bankrupt" program by a longshot.
Well documented the 2017 rankings were hurt by lack of commitment to extending Holgorsen which pushed away recruits he was trying to land--something that happened often.
Brown hasn't faced any negativity anywhere near the level DH came in with and existed with during his term, yet is recruiting right in the same area or lower.
Hard to expect keeping a Mathis in the program long term if he never sees the field while also observing the the back, with whom he is in direct competition, is (IMO) not having stellar success doing the job for which they are in competition. He SHOULD, IMO, be splitting the 'back-up, snaps with the current position holder. We get bacjs but can't keep them in the progeam.
I think thats why getting two 4 star RB commits in the 2021 class was a priority. As Brown's offense is built around a solid running game and being able to control the ToP. Also, another reason why OL & Dl recruiting at obvious priorities. We must be able to run, and be able to stop it. One reason why we didnt do well last year, we just didnt have the OL to deploy that philosophy (or a QB that could pass), which Brown correlates to wins...
Development of a bankrupt program, takes time.... Time = Years. Years to improve recruiting, years to get them developed & experienced, then once results start to show on the field, that can have a snowball effect...
If there is one area I think Brown could focus, would be overall team speed + shiftiness. At the collegiate level, speed is the one skillset that very difficult to be schemed against. I think Brown is doing a decent job at this, but it could always be improved.
Not nice of you to disparage the previous staff when every knowledgeable person knows the HC was awesome and had us on the brink of a Big XII Championship! [winking]I agree. Our team speed is not good at all offensively. Plus we are not physical enough up front.
Our defense is solid and has speed with exception of LB perhaps. But the DL makes up for that by having speed to burn and the defense is 1000% better at tackling than the previous staff.
