I'm not sure that's true. WWII was a legally declared war with a clear mission and a purpose that was widely understood. The nation's leadership was respected and trusted. My dad fought in WW2. He graduated from high school in June 1944 so he wasn’t in D-day, but he got to Europe in December… just in time for the Battle of the Bulge. Greatest generation indeed. I doubt we’ll see another generation like it. We don’t have the stomach anymore for sacrifice and to do what must be done.
Well thank goodness there hasn’t been a world war like that war again to test our leadership or youth!! Perhaps, leadership since then learned something.I'm not sure that's true. That hasn't happened since.
What do we have today?I’m Gen X (just after Gen Jones) and I think we’re pretty tough and self sufficient. That generation had grit beyond my wildest dreams. They built the country. They made the greatest sacrifices. They came back and created a middle class. They created law and order. Respect.
Something that has continued to evolve in good ways and not good ways. What do we have today?
Right, since we've been constantly in armed conflicts since- just not legally declared- you know, like the Constitution requires.Well thank goodness there hasn’t been a world war like that war again to test our leadership or youth!! Perhaps, leadership since then learned something.
I agree the Korean conflict and Vietnam conflict should never have been allowed. Don’t know why the abuse of presidential powers by Truman and Johnson since Congress never declared war.Right, since we've been constantly in armed conflicts since- just not legally declared- you know, like the Constitution requires.
Don't forget Ike, both Bushes, Reagan, and the current clownI agree the Korean conflict and Vietnam conflict should never have been allowed. Don’t know why the abuse of presidential powers by Truman and Johnson since Congress never declared war.
And Obama. But I think the two I listed were slightly bigger than trump or Obama But you keep up your clown talk.Don't forget Ike, both Bushes, Reagan, and the current clown
You're under the impression that it was Johnson who got us into Vietnam? Interesting, but incorrect. And Obama. But I think the two I listed were slightly bigger than trump or Obama But you keep up your clown talk.
I don't believe the U.S. could fight another protracted world war that involves sacrifice by every America. We don't have the toughness, discipline or unity for it. Getting people to look away from their phones would be a challenge in and of itself. My dad fought in WW2. +100. We couldn't even agree on wearing something as simple as a mask without people complaining.I don't believe the U.S. could fight another protracted world war that involves sacrifice by every America. No. But he escalated it into something terrible. Truman supported French forces, Ike gave money to south Vietnam and Kennedy sent troops ( advisors)You're under the impression that it was Johnson who got us into Vietnam? Interesting, but incorrect.
The Constitution grants war powers to the Chief Executive. They reading it sometime.Right, since we've been constantly in armed conflicts since- just not legally declared- you know, like the Constitution requires.
Well of course the sheep will. And Obama. But I think the two I listed were slightly bigger than trump or Obama But you keep up your clown talk.
Yeah it was Kennedy. You're under the impression that it was Johnson who got us into Vietnam? Interesting, but incorrect.
I stand corrected. It does give it to Congress. The Constitution grants war powers to the Chief Executive. They reading it sometime.
A gentle reminder: this thread was started to commemorate the memory of the brave men who took Normandy in Operation Overlord. Personally, I find the political bickering in this thread to be disrespectful.
