1. We need more talent and depth on both lines. Iowa dominated the line of scrimmage. So did OSU.
2. Our linebackers are very overrated. We need more speed and athleticism and football IQ there as well
3. We need to recruit a punter.
4. We need a new special teams coach.
5. We need to find a QB who can freaking throw the football. Lee? POB? Time will tell.
6. We need to find a running back that can break one and take it to the house. I think Bryant might be that guy. But we need more.
7. Our defensive ends are very, very bad. This is the position most desperately in need of an upgrade

Today showed that Iowa has a better program than we do. We have more tradition and trophies, but they are the more consistent program right now.
You just described almost every position on a football team

Iowa showed up to play big boy football, we gave up after the first TD.
That was the saddest part no inspiration and even appearance that we wanted or knew how to win. Almost as if something really big dissension in the soup the announcers said Armstrong did not hardly talk to anyone else on offense and he did have verbal scuffle with Moore and to a lesser extent Westercamp really off and sad.

I'm very embarrassed of this performance and the Ohio State performance.

I actually think we should have tried Ryker much earlier. Couldn't have hurt. Tommie was clearly hobbled and struggling.

And I'm pretty fed up with our bad punter. That guy is on scholarship, for heaven's sakes.

QB play will be much improved next year. I love Tommy but we were just in a tough spot in regards to that position. Tommy is a warrior and I thank him for everything he has done for this University. He just doesnt have the skill to play in this system.. I'm convinced we have brighter days ahead.

Go Big Red!!!

Nebraska is a solid program. You guys happened to catch Iowa at the wrong time. Both teams are playing hurt (I think Iowa is down 4-5 starters from the opener). But the OL is really starting to come together, as is the DL. Our passing game has been bad, but we've been running it well with 2 guys close to 1000 yards on the season. We completely dominated Michigan at the LOS. So Iowa is finally starting to play like we expected them to. Nebraska will bounce back. Good luck in your bowl.

Completely agree...well said. Armstrong's injury took away his one plus-skill today. Without the ability to run the ball, he became a pocket passer - something he simply is not wired for.

My biggest concern for the defense is that I have no idea how good or bad the defense is because I don't feel they've played a truly high level of offense aside from Ohio State and a quality at the time Oregon offense. I have no idea if this defense is good or if the improvement stems from the quality of opponent they've played. Giving up 40 points to the 121st ranked offense according the radio is not good at all.

Secondly, if Bruce Read isn't fired or reassigned by the end of the weekend, I'll be very disappointed. This unit is only consistent at killing momentum. Pierson-El looked like the next great punt returner and has been MIA since Read was hired. It's just incredible how much he's been taken out of the game by having nobody block for him.

For offense, who the hell knows what to expect next year. I just hope we have less YOLO bombs next season.

Regardless, it's very disappointing to get destroyed like this and end the season 2-3.

And in my opinion, the coaches should have known and went in another direction. We have more than 2 qb's. Hell Tommy himself said he knew he was not good after the first hit. Come On Coaches... I know it doesn't make up for the horrible defensive play, but good grief. Make a over throw 5 guys limit or something.

my god, tommy can't throw. We can't tackle,

We also can't run or pass block. Just wait until next year when we have a quarterback that is a stature in the pocket with our current offense line. He is going to be on his back quite a bit unless Coach Cav can actually coach up the current players or the redshirt players are as good as "advertised".

If it weren't for an Iowa choke job in 2014, it would be 4 in a row.

Right You should have lost 3 in a row but everybody makes mistakes.

Iowa lost to a FCS team. This is an embarrassing loss. And not just because it was a blow out. Nebraska is a better program than Iowa and it isn't even close. They shouldn't be losing to teams like Iowa on a regular basis. It's embarrassing.

Oh, please. Iowa was favored to win the West in the preseason and for good reason. They had everyone important coming back. They had injuries and somehow had poor chemistry early in the year (probably believed their own hype and thought they didn't have to go out and actually perform on game days). Iowa would kill NDSU and NW right now. They beat Michigan (#3 in the country) and Nebraska in the past 3 weeks. The beast finally woke up after getting embarrassed by Penn State. Iowa should have been 10-2 or 11-1 going into this game, easily a top 15, maybe a top 10 team, so stop trying to play the "woe is me" card. You're going to have to accept that Iowa hit its stride at the same time Nebraska hit a wall. Nebraska would have beaten Iowa in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th game this season. But Iowa found its groove finally and their defense, especially, started performing like they were expected to coming into the season--and they were expected to be better than 2015 with 8 starters back. I don't know why they played so poorly in the early-middle of the season, but they are playing like a legit top 10-20 team right now and Nebraska does not have the same horses on the lines of scrimmage. Iowa has two stud DTs, for example, both high 4-star DTs, who have finally been playing like the NFL caliber players they were expected to be. Add to that 2 NFL caliber LBs and 2 NFL caliber DBs (including last year's Thorpe Award winner) and you finally see a defense playing like it should have been playing all year. Be happy, you gained slightly more yards against Iowa than Michigan did. Iowa's D is easily a top 10 squad right now. No one is gonna score much against them and that's even with a couple key players hurt.

We have more trophies and traditions just like Minnesota has more trophies and traditions than Iowa. You do realize that the first two national championships Nebraska won will be nearly 50 years old soon?

This is what so many Husker fans don't get. It's over for us. TO spoiled us and we have so many delusional fans that are still living in those days. At this point, we should be thrilled to get into a BCS type of bowl game let alone in the conversation for the playoffs. Sadly, I feel like the Citrus bowl is now our goal and we should be happy to get there.

Tanner Lee isn't exactly a statue.

Everything I have heard and read from the "experts" on several message boards state that Tanner Lee is a much better thrower but mobility will be a huge issue next year if he is the starter.

Obvious concern for the likelyhood of many many more sacks next year given our offensive lines issue to pass block for a mobile quarterback.

TA had to have saved at least 10+ sacks by scrambling out of the pocket because our offensive line tends to let people run in unblocked on many occasions.

Shawn, your posts are generally good.

With that being said, a cooling period is warranted here. I don't know many who would agree with your post, given the current state of both programs.

This illustrates the point nicely. Our QB recruiting has been a 4 alarm dumpster fire since we had a QB controversy with Newcombe/Crouch in the late 90's. There have been a few highlight seasons here and there....Zach Taylor and Taylor Martinez had all-conference seasons. Joe Ganz was a nice surprise in 2008. But by and large we've been on thin-ice for 15 years...no depth...no succession plan...no experience for the back-up.

I can just see Cethan Carter becoming an all-pro Tight End and we will be wondering why the hell we couldn't get him the damn ball.

I wonder if Eichorst is still evaluating where Iowa is as a program?

Why would you wonder? They're the same as they've always been: a program that wins 7 or 8 games a year (and that now has a 3-3 record against Nebraska since we joined the conference--an impressive accomplishment for them).

Hey man if you want to walk around with poop in your pants go ahead but your comparing situations about a decade and two coaches ago.
What is your point? Husker fans have been walking around with poop on our faces since the turn of the century. Don't see that changing anytime soon.

My point is you giving up on Mike Riley because he couldn't turn Tommy Armstrong into Joe Montana due to the fact that Bill Callahan didn't succeed is an opinion not based on fact or reality.

A pro-style guy that could make the right read AND hit WIDE open guys would have beat Iowa yesterday. TA got very little pressure yesterday and our O line played well enough for us to win. The problem was the majority of the time we either threw it to the wrong option or missed the guy if he was open. 13 for 35. That's Bauserman stuff right there.
