No shortage of opinions, so here are two facts:

1-Louisville has yet to score a first half TD on offense
2-With Cunningham running the offense, Louisville has outscored its opposition 44-7.

Hadn't seen these two simple and factual observations posted in any thread. Discuss.

May need to include a few more things to consider, context.

The "way" the offense has scored has been using Cunningham's athletic ability. His ability to escape figures to be slowed once the ACC play begins. So, while his efforts are appreciated, and he figures to get better with more experience, having him run around dodging tackles with his head down probably isn't going to work in the ACC.

Then again, Pass hasn't shown any fire.

I think Pass’ problem is he was handed the starting job. I know he paid his dues, he waited and learned, but he was never pushed or tested after LJ left. He knew in 2016 that 2018 would be his team. Now, his WR’s, who self proclaimed a lot heading into W1, have not helped him. But, I see no fire, no sense of urgency from Puma. There is no question, in my mind, that Cunningham needs to be the guy moving forward. He is LJ the sequel.

Cunningham has 2 things going for him that will change quickly:

1) He’s played and performed ok against Indiana St and WKU. Indiana St and WKU.

2) The competition heats up and there is tape on him.

We may see QB by committee.

As I said in the other thread, if the offense is a hot mess of bad execution and poor preparation, a scrambling running quarterback will do better than one who was designed for a well run structured system. I'm sure Cunningham would be much harder to stop in the annual Thanksgiving Day game in the back yard too.

I won't forget Texas. And before we go too far here, let's remember that we've won 8 or 9 games since Krags left pretty much and we are currently 2-1. In other words, our "hard times" ain't that hard yet. Could be coming, but why obsess over impending doom?

Their mouthing off about anything much less Alabama was a good indicator that there is still no discipline in the program. Almost as bad as the Tax Boys. LOL.

All of those schools you listed have won a Title or more.

You have to take advantage with a top notch team (2016) when you can.

Besides those schools would fire Petrino if he did similar things at those schools record wise.

The fact is there aren't many frames of reference for teams moving into the P5. TCU, WVU, Utah, and us as far as I know. And speaking of those old WVU teams, how'd their transition into the Big 12 go? Rich Rod was once looked at as a coaching genius, but I guess he too forgot how to. Is he once he went to Michigan and Arizona.

You obviously were not following the team then. Louisville and West Virginia were top 10 teams and legit national title contenders and Rutgers top 15. USF was not that far behind. Much better than the ACC now.

Why let reality stop MM. I am 37 and followed the team extremely closely then and now. As good as Louisville, WVU and Rutgers were that year,the national media were horrified at the prospects of any of us playing for the title. WVU and Louisville were better than RU but the Scarlet Knights caught us at the perfect moment

Gone are the days when we blew out teams like Oregon State and North Carolina by 50 and teams were afraid to schedule us. Gone are the days when we resided in the top 10 regularly.

Cards first year in the B East only 3 teams had a winning record, and one of the three was 7-5 - the other two WVU and the Cards. Cards couldn't play themselves so their schedule in the Big East "they entered" as you say, was not that great. Only 2 ranked teams at the end of the year and the Cards were one of them.

WVU was the only team to win a bowl, the league went 1-3.

Right now the ACC isn't just Clemson and Va Tech. BC is also ranked and rising. Miami FL dropped a game to frickin LSU and is still ranked so I don't think their season is over yet.

NC St and SU might be getting better and Duke has a two TD win over Northwestern. They are a combined 8-0. No they are not powers by any stretch but not a horrible middling next tier, "right now".

NC St did win 9 games last year and finish the season ranked. So they may be turning a corner.

The league is down because FSU blows and the Cards do too.

And "right now" Clemson is a definite top 3 team according to the polls, not just a Top 10, so nice try framing that low ball on them to assist dragging down the league with your semantics game.

I’m not trying to make any conference comparisons that include Petrino - that’s your shtick. I’m saying only that the ACC is better at the top, better in the middle and, better at the bottom than the BE was. You disagree because it doesn’t fit your narrative and more importantly, you don’t know football.

UC, USF and UConn were all pretty competitive. It was a good league.

Hard times befalls every program. It’s why, though, that matters. And things now aren’t particularly awful. We just haven’t gotten better. It’s almost like Petrino has peaked. He’s also in the middle of an identity crisis. He doesn’t know what offense he wants to run. He can’t sync with a DC. He’s out of daughters for prospective assistants to marry. Now, we all remember where we came from. Things can be much worse. But how long do we accept being not bad?

the "why" is important...my guess is a lack of team leadership, Puma is not a leader...Jaylen seems to want to be the leader but is not demonstrating on the field, he may just not be a natural leader. CBP can't be a field leader and the team chemistry is way off...overinflated ego's, poor execution/focus is contagious...we'll see what a little adversity does to them; fingers crossed for some humility and hard work on the practice field that will carry over...I don't think CBP will give up on Puma just yet, maybe script the playbook for him a little bit and keep it simple...IDK...Malik is a nice, but limited, backup plan...the season does look ominous for now.

I’ve done the head to head math on the Big East we belonged to versus the ACC of that same time frame, and it confirms that the ACC and Big East were more or less equal. In 68 head to head matchups, the Big East team won 33 times.

The problem with that comparison is that the ACC now contains Pitt, Syracuse and Louisville, and no longer has Maryland, which definitely strengthens the conference. The ACC is also tougher because it schedules 5 games annually versus Notre Dame, something we could never get ND to do for the Big East.

Finally, the ACC is tougher because of the numerous postseason bowl matchups with the SEC - something we never got as members of the Big East unless we were lucky enough to win the Big East championship and got paired with one in the BCS game.
