I became convinced a while back that if we left the SEC our recruiting would drop and we would fall back to being a middlin' team in whatever conference we joined.
I still feel that way.
However, I will say that the "recruiting edge" of the SEC has been diminished somewhat with the addition of Missouri and Texas A&M, as there are now more SEC schools and it is hurting the "fringes" of the SEC (and an argument can be made that it has hurt everyone except Alabama, at least to some degree).
But, would leaving help us? I don't see how it does. We are a loser program for several decades and would be making a loser move to a lesser conference. I don't see how we avoid having the talent level drop.
I'm much more in favor of starting with an AD who knows how to oversee a football program than I am in jumping ship to a lesser conference.
