Did this "top target" even have an offer from us? I don't see any offer reported. I know Illinois offered him, though...
How did you feel about the football team in 2013 and 2014?Really Mike? You are so desperate to find a sunny side to things that if you weren’t cc’d on the scholarship offer then it didn’t happen because CCC didn’t want him?
The program is close to becoming a dumpster fire. No one inbound and if we see a few key transfers, book it.
And w no inbound talent and what is likely to be a miserable crappy year, why would any existing talent want to stay?
Sadly, for the first time in a long time, I’m not looking forward to NU basketball and fearing Dark Ages ahead. But you keep selling your lemonade.
How did you feel about the football team in 2013 and 2014?
In 2013, we were a program on the upswing faced adversity (internal division over the union issue, injuries) and collapsed, not being able to fully recover ubtil the end of the 2015 season. In 2017 our bb team faced the same adversiry (internal division between BMac, Scotty and others, injuries), and will take until 2020 to recover, because the line between success and failure at the smallest school in the BIG (by far) with the most restrictive admissions standards (by far) is razor-thin. But both programs have all the pieces in place to effecf the type of systematic positive change that will reward patient fans...2013, when we started out on fire, got ranked but struggled to win a conference game? Or the year when we lost to UoI and NIU and a bad Cal team. We beat teams that we should have loss but could secure the games we should have won?
I think I was frustrated both years. I think I began the seasons with hope that was quickly crushed. And in 2014, grew into frustration to know what could have been.
And those teams had some talent. And also some bad coaching too. I think they had a full array of scholarship players. I don’t recall a mass exodus. I don’t remember pinning hopes on a slew of true freshmen and unproven guys. So, what is the comparison?

That would be great Mike. Time will tell. Care to make a wager![]()
I don’t know Bob, I seem to recall you were on a Fitz tirade for a couple of years. You often used CCC as an example of a leader improving the program. Mike may see the sunny side of everything, but your position seems to change frequently. I don’t recall you having a hopeful disposition coming into those seasons. If you did, it changed after one game. Maybe the truth lies somewhere between sunny and gloomy and not at the extremes that often get pitched.2013, when we started out on fire, got ranked but struggled to win a conference game? Already offered on this season-- you turned me down. Not going to make a three-year long wager because the payout is too far away for me...

Don't think they ever had a real shot at Stewart, so why bother offering. The kid I'd love for them to get is Baldwin Jr.. He's a program changer, even if he only plays one season.Collins recruited him hard and as soon as he got big he dropped NU. This was awhile ago. I do get annoyed that the rule is for Illinois players to leave so I appreciate Ayo at Illinois. I also believe that Collins was one of the players who first left Illinois. At that time it was only a few years removed from the ‘89 Illini tram and DePaul was still a ncaa regular.
I never fault a kid or coach for heading to Duke, UNC, Kentucky or Kansas. While i hope it will be different I expect Collins’ coveted 2021 targets to end up at these schools and Indiana. The funny thing is it really has no impact on their NBA draft position.
