DeStefanis and Lemyre. McKoy was from Longwood I used to wrestle in a holiday tournament at that HS every year, DeStefanis was one of several brothers From Locust Valley just up the road from where I grew up. He was the coach at central Conn one of the schools I was going to wrestle for coming out of HS. Lemyre was way back when, school called Mepham HS they produced several national champions back in that era
Just looked it up. Lemyre wasn’t a national champ unless you count being a member of a championship team ‘53. The next year he was seeded first but got upset by referees decision.

Old guy memory like me. Every year I talk about some great HS matches I remember watching in the 80s and when I go back and look them up, I’m usually slightly off or got two guys mixed up.

I believe the National hall of fame has him as an individual national champ

Our biggest issue right now is evaluating talent. 3 of our transfers this year are a miss. That is huge! A lot of very good wrestlers on all teams, including almighty PSU don’t shoot/get many take downs against the best competition. It seems wrestling as a whole has become more defensive, although some of the young talent coming up may be changing this. Maybe the other big issue for Iowa coaches is instilling confidence, that would explain lack of shooting, being afraid to take a risk, rather than confidence in their own skills/chain wrestling (which we don’t seem to teach). Also we need someone to teach our wrestlers how to scramble.
I suggest that the reason for lack of any offense on this team is TnT simply recruit a certain wrestler that is too short and are afraid to shoot because if they shoot and the longer opponent "sprawls", they're pinned underneath.
Arnold personifies this issue. His height dictates he shouldn't be above 165, but bodybuilding added too much muscle.
The lone exception is Mikey, who even tho he's relatively short, he's ultra quick.
Look at the body types of the Minnesota, Nebraska, and PSU guys.

End of rant.

F*** st can ride because the POS REFs don't know/call the RULE correctly!!! Don't get me wrong here!!! This one is NOT on the F*** st wrestlers!!! This IS on the REFs!!!!

Riding Parallel is a STALL by rule!!! MOST will not even know how Wrestling evolved from where the "old timers" were MASTERS at keeping guys down!!! That is why it is called RIDING!!! There was not many rules about what you could not do!!! Just keep him down!!!

For example there was a WEST POINT RIDE and I will bet 100% just about know one on here ever even heard of it???? Rides like these were made illegal. My DAD was a MASTER at a TIGHT WAIST RIDE!!! He could practically break your ribs and you would never get out!!! I had an " old timer" come down when I first started coaching. He could "ride and ankle" till the cows came home!!!!

The point is, with out a REF and RULES, it becomes a LOT easier TWOOOO ride!!! Back in college, we would often get in our drunk and stooper and start wrestling in the house breaking down the walls. I had a teammate who was a leg rider and it was HELL trying to get out if he got that leg in!!! Once a teammate was so blitzed he decided he wanted to wrestle me. Me NOT be drunk just wanted to relax. Well we basically were fighting with him grabbing onto my sweatshirt. He would not let go and I basically had to knock his *** out!!!

Several guys from F*** st were mentioned above. Van Ness being one. That guy puts what I call an OUTSIDE FIGURE 4 on. Funny thing about it is, None other then STEVE HUNT showed me that move which he used. Let me tell you STRAIGHT UP, If HUNT got that FIGURE 4 locked up on you. There is NO WAY you are getting out!!!

AGAIN by rule these are STALL rides. The rules were changed to CREATE MORE ACTION!!! Somehow, we have gone backwards and if you watch F*** st and don't understand, you are either TWOOO young to know what it was like to wrestle when REFS called the rules, or do not understand what wrestling is suppose to be about!!!.

The OLYMPICS/INTERNATIONAL/FREESTYLE wrestling does not have riding/traditional TOP and Bottom because it would just be more of NOTHING happening!!!!

ALL this being said, YEA, if they the POS REFS are going to allow it. Then start doing it!!!!

Funny you brought this up. I just had a conversation the other day about body types and what most of the best have in common. There is one trait that trumps all others (besides being freakishly athletic Like Bo Nickel) and it is longer than usual ARMS along with strong hands!

A perfect example of this is Zain Rutherford, I would say he was not very athletic compared to some top wrestlers. Take a look at his arms, he could touch his shins without bending. That with big strong hands, this would be a one key focus of my recruiting strategies if I was involved with a program.

Maybe this is wrong, but maybe just welcome to old guy memory.

EDIT: Yup, wrong Lemyre. Well done Grip.

Apologies for lumping you in with the Bird. You are pretty good to talk wrestling with when we stay on point. Of course, we all get our back up at times, but nobody like that character. We have our own parody accounts over on BWI, but none ( nor have I seen any other troll on any other board) have the ability to never break character like that guy. He’s got a game going on like KMF but with 1/3 the IQ. It must be like the white noise/trash metal torture stuff the CIA does for you guys who live here.

FOLK STYLE Wrestling, it is mostly beneficial to be long and lanky. FREE STYLE it is mostly the opposite. OBVIOUSLY there are exceptions, but even a wrestler like TAYLOR for example, had to go up in weight and put on a lot of muscle!!!

Maybe 1st worry about getting more than 4 takedowns in a dual. Then worry about the riding...lol

12 takedowns the past 2 duals by 4 wrestlers.

15 of 20 matches without a takedown.

And there are people who not only find this acceptable, they think Iowa couldn’t possibly do better.

I would not be surprised if Beth pulls the plug on the Brands brothers, especially if the results are embarrassing at the B1G and NCAA Championships (which I think they will be, sadly).

And then she has to make a home run hire.

Was just commenting on @TarpHawk1 s post about pins, but you’re welcome. Wasn’t aware that commenting on both the most active college wrestling boards was an exclusive right of yours. And it certainly wasn’t antagonistic ( except probably to some of the extremists) which is more than I can say for some of your comments. Not that there is anything wrong with a little back and forth. If Grip or Ironbird object, let them have at it.
So when did the "just a fan of wrestling" become the HR board police?
Just giving you guys some of your own medicine and it's allowed here . All the losers get a rise out of going to opposing teams boards and talking trash 🤷
