UNC down 7 with 3:21. But, my question is why are they playing in their old arena and not the Dean Dome?

I was wondering that myself. Of course, Anthony wasn’t able to play due to an injury but for UNC to lose to Wofford is just a shocker.

There was a scheduling issue. UNC scheduled commencement ceremonies for Sunday in the Dean Dome. I think I read where they said it was the first time they had played in Carmichael since moving to the Dean Dome in 1986. Roy said it brought back memories of his days being an assistant under Dean Smith.

Thanks for the response. With the weak crowds everybody (including UNC) has been drawing they probably wished they still played there. Hell, there were empty lower level seats at Carmichael yesterday.

Maybe we should play a “nostalgia” game at Freedom Hall.

What would all y’all’s opinion be if we played Ky every year at Freedom Hall with a split 50/50 crowd? 10,000 tix to each side. We wouldn’t have to ever go back to Lexington (plus). Also, it would breathe some life back into the old Mecca of basketball in the Commonwealth. I’d throw in playing the Boys & Girls Sweet 16 Tournaments there as well.

Id love to see a game at Freedom Hall. I’m sure uk wouldn’t go for a game in Louisville every year though. Wouldn’t mind seeing a game there again.

Hey I’ve always wondered, what’s the significance of Charles Hamilton as your profile pic?

Good eye, most people think it’s Don Knotts. :D

I always thought he was an intriguing character. Stands up to Rhett Butler even though he’d get his *** kicked. Gets the beautiful leading lady to marry him even though she doesn’t love him. Died of pneumonia before he fires a shot in the Civil War. Goofy yet tragic character.

Lol, Yeah ol Rhett would have whooped him, and like you said he married up for sure, i wonder if he ever “fired a shot” in Scarlett before he died...probably not, poor Charles.

I went to some b-ball game (can’t recall what? Maybe Derby Classic?) in Freedom Hall years after The Yum opened. The seats are garbage, they’ve (Fair Board) not put the cash into it to keep it relevant (not that they should). We’ve moved on, the memories are great, the old facility - not so much!

I think I was at the same game (probably Derby Classic) and had the same impression. I didn't remember the seats being so small and tight together. I was in the first row of the upper section and it was tough to get up and down and in and out of the row. (I am NOT a big guy). Have some great memories from FH, but they need to stay old memories unless they renovate the old place.

For the record, UNC averaged 91% of capacity last year at the Smith Center. By comparison, we're averaging 73% this year. The arenas are within a few hundred seats of the same capacity...

I think so in the book. Pretty sure they had a child together. Not in the movie though.

They’re padding their numbers. I’ve watched multiple games where huge blocks of seats are empty in the Dean Dome. Watch them against a mid-level opponent. Their fans aren’t showing either, the same is true up the road about 75 miles too.

LOL, you think we're not counting popcorn vendors?

What's reported are tix sold, not butts in the seats...

I know...I know...if Jurich were still here we’d be selling out and he’d have convinced all Cardinal fans to sell their big screens. It would be like watching a walking dead episode all the loyal Tom fans walking diligently to The Yum, eyes glazed over chanting their leaders name.

Yeah, you’re (always) right of course!

I'm not always right. And our attendance would probably be lower--as you say--like it is everywhere else and regardless of who's in charge.

My point is, our situation is not JUST about attendance being down everywhere. That's a lazy or oversimplified analysis, and from some posters attempts to obscure our underlying issues. Our decline is significant compared to other schools experiencing the effects of more people simply staying home from games.

This isn't the subject of the thread. But I do try to correct what I think is a flawed analysis on this topic when I see it...
