Best wishes Grump!!!! Good Luck Dawgs (X-cept for that one game against the CAYUTS)
Had similar thoughts this morning, after all it is August 1 and we can see college football on the horizon.Grump you add much to the board, your take on the SEC and football in general is always a good read.Maybe this is the year the Cats get some attention in the SEC East ,we won't be world beaters but we could be heard from a little bit

I hate saying this, but the only team I see that is above everyone else in the East is UT. Talent wise we are on par with them but ours is all young, while their's is upper classmen. They could run the East, we could beat them but it would take some good fortune or Dobbs going down, he goes down they become like the rest of us. We could win them all or lose a bunch, 2 RBs coming off serious injuries, either a very bad qb or a true frosh, all WR inexperienced, OL being forced to play people out of position. The one position we are strong is TE, we have 5 and all of them have the ability to start and excel, 4 in the 6'5" 250 lb range and one 6'5" 230 range. Defense will be young but secondary will have lots of experience and so will LB, DL not so much. Just depends on how quick they adapt to college speed.

Thanks for all your inputs, especially enjoy your insight into the other SEC programs. I hope Chubb has a great year, except he has a mysterious ailment that keeps him on the bench for the UK game, where he makes a miraculous recovery as soon as the final whistle is blown. He can get double his stats against TU to make up for it, plus making up for last year. But with our luck your backup would have a career game, like backup QBs usually do against us.

I remember our top draft pick, Sam Ball that played both ways at tackle at 245# (bigger than most in the sixties, Lou Michaels was the #2 DL to Karras at 235# in the fifties IIRC), I really miss the old days when you could switch one of your 250# TEs to the OL and he could handle the DTs. And while Moorman was an underachiever at UK he was considered a monster size wise at 255#, and did make All American after transferring to A&M.

Ah, the good old days before players spent half their life in the weight room and consulting with their dietician. Also before football became all about the money and some schools became willing to sink to any level to win, and yeah I am talking about Thug U and Transfer U.

I also appreciate the fact that Georgia still tries to play by the rules (along with UK IMO), I believe they even have a lower COA than UK, although they can afford to do that much more so than UK. I do wish you would quit being a prep school for the city school though, although that has slowed down a little bit I believe, they definitely search the whole US for rejects.

Ugh, you posting about tight ends gives me nightmares.

Ill never forget the game where it seemed like every play you ran was a 5 yard out to the TE...maybe watson? And gashed us every single time.

we need to catch a couple of breaks for a change.

Yep....but even more important, we need to make our routine plays when we have the opportunity. When you have the football in your hands in the end zone, catch it....when you see a wide open WR crossing in front of you in the end zone, throw it to him instead of forcing a pass to a guy that is covered....when you have a pass that hits you in the chest, make the interception. The last two seasons we could have finished 7-5 and have a 2 game winning streak over Florida if we could have made 4 routine plays.....

a pleasure to have interaction with a respectful & smart fan of a school we play on an annual basis. so much different than what normally occurs on here from another school's fanbase who we have to deal with yearly.

Have to say that if someone is going to play "Big and Bad" in the East other than us (someday???) I've always preferred it be UGA. How are you going to back UT or UF? Seriously... after my Cats, I have always observed the Conference pulling for UGA and LSU, even if I will drop the occasional cotton candy and corn dogs reference regarding the latter. Hell, I love a county fair as much as the next guy!

Always enjoy reading your posts here, G Dawg.
Like getting an outsiders perspective..... plus, your posts are well written, thoughtful and respectful.
That doesn't happen much on a football (or any) message board.
Keep on choppin'

Rockford is correct. Your posts are very respectful, Grump. Most SEC fans have zero respect for the UK program. Thanks for being an exception.
