Seven months after announcing that freshman Justin Robinson would receive a full scholarship, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski confirmed that Robinson will be redshirting this year.

After his team defeated Buffalo 82-59 to move to 8-1 on the year, Krzyzewski was asked in the press conference if Robinson was going to redshirt, and he responded that he would.

"Yes, he is [going to redshirt]," Krzyzewski said. "He’s done a really good job but we’re not going to use him unless there’s some type of an emergency. He wants that. It wasn’t like we had to tie him up or do Naval tactics on him.

Yeah I heard that in the post game presser too. Curious if Vrank may get a RS.

I thought as long as it was less than 20% of minutes played before conference games started. Maybe it's changed

Glad to see that Robinson is going the red shirt route. Hope nothing happens (emergency wise) that we have to use him, really looking forward to seeing how he develops.
Go Duke!!

It would be nice if Vrank would redshirt.. I think he'll be pretty good in a couple years, so I wouldn't want to lose this year since he wont be getting much (if any) real playing time.

20% rule applies in case of injury only.
Lot of earlier discussion on our board earlier.
Seems like Poythress could be approved for a 5th
year due to his early injury last year.

It might happen. He's currently working on his Masters
and could obtain in 5 years. With his NBA value in doubt,
well who knows........would like to see education win out once.

my son was gonna rs but his coach played him in an exhibition game for 3 minutes. NCAA originally ruled that he could not have a red shirt. The school appealed but he could play until h
the second semester

Did he have an injury after his playing time that caused him to miss the year?
My understanding, that's how it works.
Recently, we haven't had a Sr to apply, but Poythress may be one.
I have read that he is eligible .

Is that an Army guy taking a shot at a Navy family? lol

I'm not sure why they wouldn't have pursued a redshirt for Vronk. Maybe since we're the new destination for elite big men they think we won't need a 5th year out of him. And those Robinsons tend to grow in college, so maybe Justin will be playing the post in a couple years anyway.
