I am starting to watch the JV game between JCA and Marmion (@ Mooseheart Field) but there are some predetermined rules that make it seem more like a scrimmage game. Is this normal?

9 minute quarters
short half time
No kicking, none what-so-ever. All kickoffs and punts are simulated. Examples: one team says to the ref "we punt" and the ball is moved 35 yards and given to the other team. Both teams go for the 2 point conversion.

No kicking would kind of suck if you're a JV kicker, FG kicker, punter or return man.

That is the first time all year I've seen this set up. I was surprised when they announced it before the game on Monday.

Yep, and in some occasions if not all those 9 minute quarters are a running clock..

How do ya like Mooseheart?

This one seems like a running 9 minute clock. The 1st quarter was very fast.

The Mooseheart field looks very nice but I'm only seeing the video.

JV games, freshman B games for the most part use a running clock and no special teams. There is the occasional exception . Southwest Prairie fresh B use regular clock, southwest suburban uses mostly running clock. A lot of conferences are doing away with B games and JV games, mostly because of lack of numbers, others because of the new playing rule

It depends on your definition.

For a lot of schools JV is Varsity B. These are the varsity kids who don't play on Friday nights. These kids are now playing mostly on Mondays because of the new IHSA rule that states they can't play back to back days. JV games used to be Saturday mornings.

If your JV is frosh soph, then I would expect this game to be played before the Varsity game on Friday night.

The frosh A and frosh B bombers usually are not running clock. I have see some Frosh C games (who I've heard called choppers now..LOL) that are usually running clock.

Nost conferences jv is the soph team with the ability to add upperclassmen. It is ran like a normal game. A varsity b game usually is just offense and defense with no specials.
