Yea it’s alarming how bad AAU has killed fundamentals. Many of us said it years ago and many coaches stood against it. But as always the “everything is fine” crowd pushed and pushed saying it would open up so many more opportunities and anyone in the way of it is just “old”, 25 years later they can’t spell shoot and screen. Let alone do it.
It’s amazing how they can’t perform simple basketball tasks they should have learned at 12.
Yea, both Williams and Oweh have shooting forms that inspire little confidence. It’s like they are having to use more energy than they should to get the shot up. Not in a “little kid trying to play with a standard-sized ball” way, but in a “too many moving parts” kind of way.
Think of the good/great shooters out there. Many (not all…. remember Shawn Marion?) have forms that look easy, effortless, like they barely exert any energy to get shots off. Curry is a prime example, but if you want some recent UK examples, check out Antonio Reeve’s, Reed Sheppard’s, and Koby Brea’s shooting forms. Looks natural, and when they shoot you think it’s going in. Williams and Oweh don’t have that. Chandler would be the closest thing to that this year, as his form is very solid, but the rainbows he throws up limits my confidence in the shot going in.
