Both were really soft last night. If your that big you need to be as mean as Damarcus Cousins. Got to play with an attitude.

Karl was Dakari wasn't as he played well. It is not his fault everytime he touched the ball he was hacked and fouled ala UL . If we you respond to that then you get the technical .

I didn't see it that way at all. Karl plays very hard, certainly not "soft". His problem right now is that he's too "edgy". He needs to slow down mentally. Physical and mental toughness are not his problem. Dakari is fine, just can't jump.

Teams are packing it in, holding, smacking, and just generally mucking it up against us. If the refs would call it like they are suppose to, we would see freedom of movement and more of an offensive flow.

Dakari and Karl are having a tough time scoring on post up moves. Dakari is getting the ball taken away from him when he makes his move or gets it blocked up top when he's able to shoot. Dakari's inability to jump makes his head fakes ineffective. Karl is avoiding contact and when he tries to go up strong his hands are not strong enough to play through the contact.

Our lack of scoring at the basket will be the one area that could hurt our chances at #9. I'm hopeful that within the next 6 weeks Cal and Coach Payne will work diligently at making these 2 better in the Post.

Soft Karl blocked 7 shots. He will be a beast if he toughens up a bit.

I know they had their moments but against a physically weak Vandy team in a man defense we should have imposed our will offensively inside. I was talking more about offense that on defense.

This has been an issue all year on offense. On defense they are awesome but on offense they are soft and don't go to the hole strong enough. This is an area that if able to play Poythress strives at. When he goes to the basket you better not be in his way. Towns and Dakari both have to learn to go up strong with both hands when taking a shot and quit trying to shimmy/shake an opponent and these little one had lofts. Take it up strong with two hands and make the officials call the fouls.

I agree that we have an offensive defeicincy close in. Karl, except for a fair hook shot, simply can't make them fall. He must make strides in that area before we meet up with the top teams in March/Apr. I think it is mostly mental - he simply losies his attention level when he starts his power moves and winds up throwing up a brick rather than taking a legitimate shot. If he can get past that hangup he will be the best big man in the country.

Karl has to learn to play through contact and take the bumps - he's afraid to get hit. Also, he needs to learn how to go to his left. He never goes left.

As for Dakari, he needs to learn to play above his waist and quit holding the ball down by his knees, and for the love of God he needs to learn how to shoot the ball under the basket. The dude can't hit anything under the rim, period.

I don't think anyone is talking defensively here. This is about the offense. They don't always go strong to the hoop and try to finesse the ball up there with hooks and playing the ball off the glass. They both have to learn to go through defenders and dunk that ball. Get that footwork going so the defender has to move with you. If they start doing that on a more consistent basis they will either wind up at the line or with a dunk or both. Towns has done it here or there but for the most part they are pretty soft around the rim on offense.

Both are struggling with late double teams, especially Dakari. Teams no longer send the double immediately. Theyre waiting until the 2nd dribble or so to bring the double team. Both players are struggling feeling the 2nd defender coming in late. Its one reason Dakari is getting so many shots blocked right now.

yeah, both need to get a little bit more nasty and have more tunnel vision to want to finish with a dunk EVERY TIME, maybe you don't dunk every time, but that's the mindset. To humiliate the person guarding you. POY had the best tunnel vision when it came to finishing down low, he was always going for the dunk.

I must say I am surprised that this thread went this far without a "5% tougher" reference.

karl's biggest problem is that he gets engaged (1 way or the other) in a wrestling match in the post. instead of getting his arms in knots with the defender, use your feet, get low and wide.
