Matt probably made a comment about Hood just not being good enough to be in the rotation. Matt probably didn't mean anything bad and didn't think about it, but Hood or his family hearing it....it probably hurt.
I mean it could've been something like
"I mean next year we have to get Terrence Jones to commit. Because we aren't sure about Enes' eligibility. Then you're left with guys like Harrellson, Eloy Vargas, and Jon Hood as your options and that just can't compete for a title"
For a radio host, it's an honest statement and that's Matt's job. But for a teenager like Hood it bothered him. Now that's all hypothetical to me, but it's probably something similar to that.
Also, during that time Matt was a bit more immature and a jerk. A lot of the bad reputation he has now is because of how he was when he was younger. He's grown up a lot over the last 15 years. Matt just didn't realize how big a deal KSR was and it grew so fast, so he became a big figure all at once in his 30's and that probably just went to his head. But like all of us, we grow up but have to live with a reputation we build in our teen years through our 30s unfortunately.
He knows exactly why. It has to do with Drew Franklin and Drew’s dad.
