I've recently gotten into kayaking. I am going to do a 12 mile race on Saturday and was wondering how long it might take if anyone on here has any kayaking experience. Also I've heard to off set the blades of the kayak, but it seems to go better without off setting the blades.Any other tips would be great.

I have no useful information but sounds like a cool hobby. Good luck .

Entering a race with no idea how long it may take?

Where can I place my bet?

Seriously though.... Good luck and be safe.

There are two sports whose main piece of equipment is a palindrome. One is a kayak. Name the other.

I see people hauling their kayaks to the Beckley Creek park to kayak in Floyds Fork all the time.

How do they get back upstream? Is there a service or do you have to take two cars?

Aside from actually owning a kayak, this seems to be the biggest barrier to entry for me

Have to do it like rafting and have an upriver and downriver vehicle and usually a partner... otherwise, you learn to run your left arm up into the kayak and to hoist it onto your left shoulder while carrying the paddle and gear in the other hand. With no more than a kayak normally weighs, you can carry one a fair distance that way.

But screw racing a kayak. You people have way too much time and energy on your hands. They're much more useful for fishing calm, still waters without the hassle of every guy you know wanting a boat ride or to take them fishing. If you own a truck (load/unload times are much faster out of a truck bed comparative to some Thule rack strapped on top of a granola-littered Subaru wagon), you can slip in and out of a lot of inaccessible waters to fish and no one will ever know you were there. This is the true value of the kayak.

This. I've rigged my cheap kayak with an anchor pulley system and fish finder. Been fishing out of it for years and love it.
