Brian Kelly Files Lawsuit Against LSU, Claims School Now Wants to Fire 'For Cause'
I didn't read this specific article but I have read others. Kelly claims he has a letter from LSU suggesting they fired him without cause. I don't know how LSU wins this. Pay him his money for your poor judgement and move on.

It would be doggone hard to demonstrate a for cause hiring, unless there were some things going on behind the scenes we don't know about.

From the article:
"To the contrary, LSU repeatedly confirmed, both publicly and to Coach Kelly, that the termination was due to the Team's performance, not for cause.”

I am not interested enough to look it up, but if it was confirmed publicly, this should be a pretty quick case to settle.

He wasn't exactly terrible anywhere he went except Central Michigan (19-16). At Grand Valley State, Cincinnati, Notre Dame and LSU he was 278-94 for a .747 winning percentage. He won 2 national championships at Grand Valley and a total of 4 conference championships over his career. He was 10-5 in bowl games.

Results like that would get the stadium named for him at South Carolina.

LSU is running a game that will only wind up deepening their financial obligation. They're in danger of turning Kelly into a victim.

They already have. Public sentiment was strongly against these ridiculous buyouts, but opinion has already shifted to "pay the man".

But some believe a Louisiana trial is winnable by LSU. This needs to go before a very well-picked jury or a very literalist judge.

I dont believe Mr Kelly's solicitor would allow this matter to be adjudicated by the bench. However, would it be wise to let the decision rest on a group of his "peers "?
If such a group could be found.

I'm not a peer, but people like me would lavish the money he is owed upon him.

I'll give you the Grand valley, cause I didn't know m much about it, but let's be real.... You have to look at competition... Cincinnati played pretty decent, but never played against a lot of defense imo. Notre Dame plays like 2 difficult games a year. LSU generally has better players than most of who they play, and doesn't compete against another school for in-state talent.... I'm not arguing he didn't look good on paper, I'm just saying you can't just list wins and losses and act like that tells the whole story. I was kinda shocked when LSU hired him honestly. It made me laugh. I've always seen him as a paper tiger.

This gets me thinking, if we only had one team in our state, I bet we would have one powerhouse program here in SC. We really produce a lot of top-notch talent in our little state. I'd like to know per population how states compare...

You said he never won anything anywhere. I was pointing out that wasn't true at all. Cincinnati had similar talent to their opponents, they weren't like Clemson in the ACC. ND doesn't usually have a hard schedule but they are a big game for every team they play. His bowl record was good and that was against other bowl eligible teams.

I thought he was a bad hire for LSU too. I've seen stats on states that put the most players in the NFL. SC isn't really high on the list, not in the top 10 anyway. Clemson usually has a lot of Georgia and Florida players.

No, UPC would have a powerhouse program if they were the only program in our state. Our maladroit leadership through the years and proximate meddling politicians in Columbia would screw it up.
