Kendall is not the best QB

On the team.......

I don’t know how you do not give the next 3 starts to Doege. Kendall has not shown improvement over the course of the season. I try to be fair with him, and in his defense, about half of his picks were tipped passes that should have been caught, and then he has about 25 drops by receivers on the season many coming in key points during drives. However, Doege comes in and immediately drives down to the 5 yard line, and we don’t convert. His next drive, he comes in and drives down for a score.

The one pass he converted to James on the second drive where it looked like he was going to take off after being flushed out of the pocket, but instead keeps looking for a receiver, runs left and steps up and completes the pass for a first down - I don’t believe we convert that play and extend the drive with Kendall at QB.

If Brown wanted to save the next two seasons for Doege by waiting to redshirt him this season or whatever, then he intends to use him the next two years, I have to think. You don’t worry about redshirt a backup you don’t intend to play.

Let Doege play out the season, get the experience in the offense in live gameplay and prepare for next year with Doege as your projected starter.

I only watched the first half and recorded the rest, but the pass defense lost this game. Almost every pass completed by TT was to a completely undefended receiver. This was the worst looking secondary I have witnessed for a long time. I guess they are young and have injuries, but lets not lay this loss on the QB.

It was a total team effort loss today. The defense played better in the second half, only giving up 3 points. That doesn’t discount giving up 35 in the first half. The offense with Kendall scored 10 points today. They scored 14 last week against Baylor. They scored 14 the week before that against Oklahoma. They scored 14 the week before that against Iowa State.

There needs to be a change on offense. I can only assume Brown was purposefully saving Doege for the next two years. If Kendal starts next week, I have no explanation.

At times Kendall looks like he is ready to finally take the next step, but he follows that up with mistakes.

I genuinely hope Kendall and Doege take a huge leap forward between now and next season, and we have two legitimate P5 QBs on the roster competing to start for the team.

I need to see more out of Doege, but the two drives I saw, he got us in scoring position.

I never played football above the high school level, and even then I was a no-talent clown.

That said, I have always heard at every level I have ever paid attention to that a good QB elevates the level of play of his team. I cannot say that has happened this season.

I genuinely feel bad for Kendall. I want everyone who wants to be a Mountaineer to succeed and do so at a high level. I hope he comes back next season ready to win the heisman.

I want dude to be successful as well, but dude is just out of his element and needs to go someplace where he can succeed.

I hope if he sticks around that he is able to finally turn it on and be a gamer. I know it is not all his fault, alone. I hope our receivers stop dropping passes. I hope our line starts opening holes for running backs. I hope our defensive backs stop letting teams convert third and long seemingly unchallenged game after game.

But like I said, a good QB is supposed to be able to elevate the play of those around him. I am no coach, but it doesn’t look like that has been happening.

Doege is still an enigma. The two drives he had today got us into scoring position, resulting in a touchdown. He looks to be able to convert and keep drives going, but again it was only two drives.

I think you have to give Doege a chance the next few games to see if he is able to become the guy at QB.

How many times have you claimed that Kendall is the best qb on the squad.....I’ll set the line at 30

Not sure about Allen but I said, and still do say, that Kendall is the best on the roster that would not waste a redshirt. Doege is likely the better QB, but why waste a year when it was obvious after 6 games that bowl eligibility would be a struggle. Not suprising given the track record WVU has had with back up QB's over the last decade.

Let’s not get too fired up about Doege. He looked pretty efficient throwing check-down passes during garbage time. That’s it. I hope we have better to come, but maybe that decision can be made by the guy that sees him in practice every day.
