In your opinion what other Duke player would you compare Luke to? He reminds me a lot of Scheyer but with better ability to create his own shot. His game has come along nicely.
From a scoring standpoint, he reminds me a lot of J.J. His instincts on the offensive side of the ball are uncanny. He still makes mistakes and goes just too fast sometimes --- as evidenced by that late possession in the ND game where he turned it over --- but I still like that he's always on the aggressive.
Defensively he's ahead of J.J. at this stage, and that's where I'd bring the Scheyer comparison in. He kind of came into a similar position as Scheyer, both were called upon a lot as freshman because of big defections from prior teams.
So to answer your question, offensively I see a lot of J.J., but he's more a well-rounded player than J.J. was as a freshman, and more like Jon from a maturation point of view.
It wasn't until his jr year that JJ took it to the next level. At times he was a liability even his soph year.I told a couple of my buddies he reminded me of JJ and they laughed at me saying "you are crazy, JJ was an all-american"....I told those clowns I meant freshman year not Kennard fresh vs JJ senior....When it's said and done maybe Kennard is an all-american also
Believe before his time is up in Durham he will have more impact than Capel/Nate or Duhon....Those three were tremendous, but this kid is further along already IMO....Combo of Capel, Nate, and Duhon. Among non-Duke players, Klay Thompson and Reggie Miller.
Hopefully there will always be more offensive firepower around Luke than there was around JJ.I don't think Coach will ever give Kennard or anyone else the free rein like he did JJ.
Perhaps that's correct 'dat, but ultimately Impact is the more defining factor....I thought we were talking style, not impact.
Gotta like that comparison- liked your Thompson/Miller analogy as well!!Chris Carrawell, Phil Henderson, and Trajan Langdon then.
Chris Mullin by the time he leaves Duke.
I wouldn't mind that at all.
OFC
I have no doubt that he could be that good.
