Did you all see that last shot, our point guard dribbles the perimeter with 6 seconds left, we set a pick, all that does is get their biggest player to switch out and guard her, so she has to step back even further and shoot a three with no time left BUCKET!

Just watched highlights from the game. Man the girls are extremely well coached. I really like Kenny Brooks. Other than just winning he’s super cool and confident. Nice that the girls have a great coach with all that swag. Watch him when they hit the last shot. Kind of made me laugh. Go Cats.

Barnhart does not care about men’s basketball.
Pope did not work his way up the ladder and earn the job to coach KY Basketball!

It was given not earned to Pope by the ultimate gift giver in Mitch Barnhart!

And yet we still had a better than historic Kentucky average season last year on limited time with Pope.

Kudos for what Pope was able to do last season in the regular season.

Excluding the 1979, 1989, 1990, 1991, 2009, 2013 and 2021 seasons because we either missed the tournament or were ineligible, Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball has averaged a 3.54 seed since seeding began. Pope was better than that in year one with a 3 seed.

As for the postseason, Pope did right at average for Kentucky basketball teams as well. Excluding the 1991 season and 2020 season from the data since 1991 would have qualified for the tournament but couldn’t due to eligibility and 2020 didn’t get to test how far they’d go because of Covid. That said, I calculated the average NCAA tournament finish for every Kentucky team since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985. The average Kentucky team finished with a Sweet 16. In Pope’s first year, with catastrophic injuries and portal scraps, he made a Sweet 16.

Year two —- not good so far… but let’s see how it plays out before concluding Mitch whiffed on the hire. Did his resume meet the standards? Probably not, but he’s already hired, so we gotta judge based on what he does here.

Kenny is great and that ending was epic. His little jig on the sidelines got me hyped

Trying to go back and look at this historic crap is what got us deep in the ground with Cal.

You can’t look back and compare performance before you could pay players and the transfer portal.

I know we get ran off the court a lot with Pope and he’s heading towards his 2nd out of 2 ten loss or more seasons.

Plus he had 2 straight 11 loss seasons at BYU. 4 straight 10 loss or more seasons isn’t good in my opinion.

Huh? Then what are you comparing coaching performance against? We are the winningest program in college basketball history and you don’t think it’s fair to grade our coaches according to that standard? What standard are we grading by if not our own history?

And Indiana football was the losingest program in college football history and hired Curt Cignetti and he used NIL and the transfer portal to take them to the top in year 2.

Do you think Cignetti could’ve accomplished that feat before NIL and the transfer portal?

This isn’t your grandparents NCAA.

You can build a championship contender in days. Literally!

I’m not sure I understand your first part about history and Cal.

as for pope and 10 loss seasons, yeah it’s bad and it’s an established trend. 7 of his 9 pre Uk seasons, he lost 10 or more games. I remember when everybody round here was sick of “10 loss tubby”.

Is Indiana part of the rule or an exception to the rule? Also, I don’t compare CFB and CBB. Apples to Oranges

Great win but they just about snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory. They were up 2 with a brand new shot clock due to 2 or 3 consecutive offensive rebounds. I think a little over 30 seconds to play. Boone catches the pass at the 3 pt. line and immediately lets it fly. Ball clangs off the rim. LSU grabs the rebound and gets fouled on a 3. Sinks 3 free throws to take the lead by 1.

I really hope Coach sat her down and explained that we needed to kill clock there. All we had to do was play keep away for a little and shoot free throws. Should have not relinquished the lead in that scenario.
