He would be a roll of the dice, which could be a disastrous move, but could be the next great coach. He has had some early success in his short career....only 35 years old with lots of energy. Some pundits believe he could be the next superstar coach. Limited body of work and young. May not be completely happy with ASU’s commitment to football.
They are all rolls of the dice. How are Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly working out? Probably not as well as their current employers had hoped. He would be a roll of the dice, which could be a disastrous move, but could be the next great coach. I think his buyout is 24 mil plus and he has no ties to anything related to PS or the northeast. Probably not a deal breaker if you are dead set on taking a chance on someone. Personally, I like him but if I were Kraft I doubt I would take that chance. That's just me though. Some pundits believe he could be the next superstar coach. Limited body of work and young. This is the point I have made over and over again to delusional PSU fans that wanted Franklin out. If Kraft wasn't aware that the list is extremely short he should be fired. No f-ing way he'll hire anyone better than Franklin because they aren't available. They are all rolls of the dice. How are Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly working out? A somewhat sobering statistic: there are only three active coaches who have won national titles (and one of those might be gone before another coach has an opportunity to add his name to the list). Do you think Pat Kraft realized that 10 days ago?
further, since 2009 only Urban Myer (2), Gene Chizick, Nick Saban (5), Jimbo Fisher, Dabo Sweeny (2), Ed Orgeron, Kirby Smart (2), Jim Harbaugh, Ryan Day are the only coaches to win national championship in whatever format. That is 9 coaches. Those are the "home run hitters" if looking to hire a coach with a chance. Everyone else, everyone is strictly a roll of the dice. They are all rolls of the dice. Despite my criticism of Kraft for his comments in the press release and press conference, I will reserve judgment until I see who he hires and how it works out. But given those comments, it better be a home run. This is the point I have made over and over again to delusional PSU fans that wanted Franklin out. Situation reached a point where Kraft had no choice. Won't say that Kraft has to hit a home run with the replacement, but he doesn't have much room for error.further, since 2009 only Urban Myer (2), Gene Chizick, Nick Saban (5), Jimbo Fisher, Dabo Sweeny (2), Ed Orgeron, Kirby Smart (2), Jim Harbaugh, Ryan Day are the only coaches to win national championship in whatever format. Considering this year and next year could easily be 6 loss season or more under franklkn, I don’t think Kraft has much to worry about. This is the point I have made over and over again to delusional PSU fans that wanted Franklin out. "Never challenge worse. Things can always get worse."Considering this year and next year could easily be 6 loss season or more under franklkn, I don’t think Kraft has much to worry about.
I will say it. He absolutely needs to hit a home run.Situation reached a point where Kraft had no choice. Won't say that Kraft has to hit a home run with the replacement, but he doesn't have much room for error.
There is no reason to make this move after six games unless you have a plan in place. I'm not saying the plan should be public. Not having a plan is administrative malpractice. Unrelated, this week would have been the week to do it with an extra week for Terry Smith to prepare. This is the point I have made over and over again to delusional PSU fans that wanted Franklin out. There was no plan in place. How could there be? If we don't hire Saban, Meyer or a coach that was recently fired, how do you think this is going to happen in the middle of the season? It's possible if it's the coach of a team that's out of it, but otherwise this will take a while. There is no reason to make this move after six games unless you have a plan in place. I know that I'm not be in the majority, but it works if Urban Meyer is the guy. Do I think he is? Unfortunately, no. I think there is more to the dismissal than losing 3 games in a row. I guess I just hope "the plan" isn't "what do we do now?" My reason for Meyer is that it is a "wow" hire. It would also give a jump on salvaging whatever could be salvaged of a recruiting class. His name attracts players AND coaches. Hiring in January loses this class which is expected any time a coaching change is made. It also puts the new head coach behind the 8-ball with the transfer portal. It makes this a 2 to 3-year rebuild just to get where Penn State was. As always, I could be completely wrong in my thoughts. There was no plan in place. How could there be? Now that I've said that, we'll hire someone tomorrow.
You may not think Kraft has to hit a home run but I sure as hell do. He needs to walk the walk after his big talking the talk. We shall see.Situation reached a point where Kraft had no choice. Won't say that Kraft has to hit a home run with the replacement, but he doesn't have much room for error.
Okay, Urban it is! Give him a ton of $$$ and no academic restrictions. We'll win it!You may not think Kraft has to hit a home run but I sure as hell do. He needs to walk the walk after his big talking the talk. We shall see.
At at least one point in the career of each one of those guys….they were the roll of the dice.further, since 2009 only Urban Myer (2), Gene Chizick, Nick Saban (5), Jimbo Fisher, Dabo Sweeny (2), Ed Orgeron, Kirby Smart (2), Jim Harbaugh, Ryan Day are the only coaches to win national championship in whatever format. I agree there was more than losing 3 games. It looks like there was friction between the AD and the coach (coach went over the AD’s head for a raise, coach wanted raise without beating a top team, coach regularly said he wasn’t given enough resources, coach didn’t follow instructions on how to use resources provided), and the coach’s longstanding track record shows he can’t take the team to the level the AD wants to go (championships). There is no reason to make this move after six games unless you have a plan in place. I'm not saying the plan should be public. Not having a plan is administrative malpractice. Unrelated, this week would have been the week to do it with an extra week for Terry Smith to prepare.
Kraft said he wants to win championships. Franklin had 12 years, but you’re demanding perfection on Kraft’s first attempt? You may not think Kraft has to hit a home run but I sure as hell do. He needs to walk the walk after his big talking the talk. We shall see.
Well not tomorrow but yeah by Thanksgiving I think it could be done. But funny things happen on the way to the negotiating table. There was no plan in place. How could there be? It’s a huge risk to take a coach like that. Cignetti is the obvious comparison but he had many years of experience as a positional coach in big boy football, including at Bama under Saban. Chesney has none of that. The more this goes on, the more I realize that realistically this will go to Matt Campbell.Well not tomorrow but yeah by Thanksgiving I think it could be done. But funny things happen on the way to the negotiating table.
At this point don't count out Chesney at JMU. Was at Holy Cross for years and all he does is win. Not advocating here just making a point why it could be by Thanksgiving if they went to get a guy at that level.
I know someone who has years of experience as a OC/QB coach under Urban. It’s a huge risk to take a coach like that. It doesn't seem like they are getting anybody who was at the top of their list so it's probably going to be someone from the second tier. They won't take a coordinator imo since the requirements seem to be someone who has handled NIL well and has had success with the transfer portal with a history of a winning tradition. It’s a huge risk to take a coach like that. Yeah, you need to hold him accountable for his statements. Just like you did with Franklin for the last 12 years, right? You may not think Kraft has to hit a home run but I sure as hell do. He needs to walk the walk after his big talking the talk. We shall see.
I am also sure it’s going to be tough sledding when in all likelihood Kraft is going to be dealing with Franklin’s agent on the next hire as well.It doesn't seem like they are getting anybody who was at the top of their list so it's probably going to be someone from the second tier. Any top candidate will likely be in the college football playoff, so none of them are viable unless we’re willing to completely sacrifice 2026 and possibly 2027. The cfp is even a possibility with a top G5 candidate. It’s a tough spot to be in, and that’s why it has to be a Matt Campbell type of head coach or a top coordinator. It doesn't seem like they are getting anybody who was at the top of their list so it's probably going to be someone from the second tier. Yeah we are not hiring the JMU guy who has no experience in Power 4 programs. Gerry Faust says "Hi".It’s a huge risk to take a coach like that. PSU will look like the 90’s movie “The Program”.Okay, Urban it is! Give him a ton of $$$ and no academic restrictions. We'll win it!
It will be a power 4 HC only and there are coaches under serious consideration who will not make the playoffs.Any top candidate will likely be in the college football playoff, so none of them are viable unless we’re willing to completely sacrifice 2026 and possibly 2027. Maybe not but I get your point. This I can tell you Kraft isn't taking crap from anyone especially an agent even that one. He will be reasonable, but he won't carry that ***'s jock. You can probably tell I don't much like Sexton and Kraft doesn't care about that eitherI am also sure it’s going to be tough sledding when in all likelihood Kraft is going to be dealing with Franklin’s agent on the next hire as well.
Rhule better be on a 5th tier. Kraft, and PSU in general, would be the laughing stock of the college football world to end up with Rhule. It doesn't seem like they are getting anybody who was at the top of their list so it's probably going to be someone from the second tier. If Kraft hires Ruhl the Bot should fire him on the spot.Rhule better be on a 5th tier. Kraft, and PSU in general, would be the laughing stock of the college football world to end up with Rhule.
We see how well it worked for Kraft in basketball….so I don’t have a ton of faith in him for football.Maybe not but I get your point. You can probably tell I don't much like Sexton and Kraft doesn't care about that eitherSexton imo is the typical ambulance chaser just at a high level.
Kraft is not in the power position over Sexton if he has to deal with him.Maybe not but I get your point. This I can tell you Kraft isn't taking crap from anyone especially an agent even that one. He could be a good one but oh that buyout. Some pundits believe he could be the next superstar coach. Limited body of work and young. May not be completely happy with ASU’s commitment to football.
I'm not sure you can say that yet. If it's a current coach it probably won't happen until ThanksgivingIt doesn't seem like they are getting anybody who was at the top of their list so it's probably going to be someone from the second tier. They won't take a coordinator imo since the requirements seem to be someone who has handled NIL well and has had success with the transfer portal with a history of a winning tradition.
