Like my old coach told me: “When your teams leading scorer is a guard, there will not be very many trophies in the trophy case.”
You need guards to win the title.

Baylor top 5 scorers last year were all guards.
Jared Butler 16.7 PPG
MaCio Teague 15.9 PPG
Davion Mitchell 14.0 PPG
Adam Flagler 9.1 PPG
Matthew Mayer 8.1 PPG

And a guard was leading rebounder on the team with 6.7 a game, Mark Vital.

This season Baylor leading scorers are 6 guards.

This isn't the 1950's anymore. You need guards that can score.

ISU leading scorers are 3 guards
Kansas leading scorers are 3 guards

I can go through the entire Big 12 but you get what's trending. Many teams no longer play a 5. They may have someone at that position but that 5 is really a forward and can shoot the outside shot. WVU is missing a 5 that can shoot consistently. They don't have to average 10 a game as 7 or 8 would suffice.

For WVU Curry needs to quit turning the ball over and trying to dribble between two defenders. He is no different than McCabe in this area but Curry can at least score.

Bridges needs to step up his game and grow some balls.

#17 Iowa State 47 Jacksonville State 37 - is this a middle school score. They were up 15 at the 15:30 mark (37-22) They score 10 points in final 15 minutes against a 2-7 team.

And funny enough, KenPom has ISU at 50 and WVU 45.

Technically, Vital was a Forward. They listed him as a "G/F". Not a true guard. That's like calling Devin Ebanks a Guard.

Ebanks played guard for WVU many times. Teams don't use the term G/F anymore.
Yes. He was the point on the 1-3-1 which typically was either the 2 guard or point guard. But with his length and quickness he was able to disrupt the center of the floor and drive the ball to the corners as was designed to happen.
