A UK Baseball teaser was dropped tonight on social media............those are always exciting.

Wonder if it is a recruit or someone pulling their name out of the draft?

Thinking it’s a portal catcher. Heard from SC where I’m from it could be tagger Tyson from Louisville. He played hs ball in sc. hopefully don’t mean Duffey is gone to draft. Would be a huge loss.

I think it is Tagger Tyson. Can play C, 3B, 1B or corner OF. I think this might be a utility guy who is insurance for Mitchell and Cerny. It sounds like both Mitchell and Cerny are much more likely to be drafted and sign than Duffey

Could be correct. He is now following UK Baseball on social media. Kinda surprised he went in the portal as he looked to be the starting catcher for UofL next year but maybe Klein is not going pro? Tyson's stats look solid but I agree it worries me that both Duffey and Mitchell or Jenkins wont make it to UK

Yea hopefully it’s not to be the starting catcher. He’s got a great arm and solid at plate but Duffey is proven. He’d be really good as a utility guy then the man the following year. Should have a clear picture in a few days what we will have though.

Big couple of days coming up with the draft. From the sound of things there is a pretty good likelihood that Mitchell, Flores and Echeman will choose the professional route and Cerny may be trending that way also. The big decisions to watch seem to be Walker, Jenkins and Essenburg. If we get those three on next seasons roster I think we would have to be considered a strong Omaha contender

First three rounds complete (105 players) and we are still good. Didn't really expect any to be drafted this early but at least no surprises.

Today will determine a lot. Particularly up to round 10. Whoever makes it past that round has a solid shot to come to campus.

Big day for the program today. Hoping Seamhead Ninja makes his way back to this board. He usually had the best insider info on the baseball program

Went about as expected so far. Still think they lose Echeman to pro ball. With Jelkin and Jenkins on board if they can keep Cerny and Walker the staff has to be ecstatic

If that happens then barring injuries this is a CWS worthy roster no doubt. Ming is really getting things going. I think his genuine love of his players and baseball is finally coming through. It seemed fake to me for a few years but that’s just him.

Don’t think Duffey is a huge concern. Cerny and Walker probably the last 2 to worry about and them not going top 10 rounds is big.

Not a horrible draft for us. Walker coming back would be really big, but there might be the guys there to replace him. A lot to look forward to in 2026.

If Walker signs, Leighton Harris becomes a very important arm. Good news is he has thrown 20 innings in the NECBL this summer and only allowed 1 ER.

Will be a tense competition between Harris and Harris. Will staff want two lefty starters or will they want to have a lefty out of the pen? That might be a factor in Leighton's fate as a starter. Either way, I would anticipate whoever loses that battle as the starter will fall into the role that Tyler Guilfoil had a few years back where he'd come into a game in the 6th or 7th, typically on a Friday, and pitch the rest of the way. Help preseve the bullpen.

If Walker is back and you have both of those guys that can fill those roles (assuming Jelkin is as strong as we hope he is) then that leaves a ton of options for us and also helps to solidify us for tougher post season play by having two extra guys that could conceivably be starters that are coming out of the bullpen.

Not sure why DT was just “meh” with the draft? I thought we came out great. Flores, Essenburg, and Mitchell were all trending towards the top ten rounds. The staff reacted appropriately by getting Tyson. So excited for next year already.
Additionally Harris was just announced a NECBL all star

I didn’t understand that either. All 3 were never touching campus. Echeman I never thought would come either. Jenkins turning down draft was huge and both Duffey and cerny presumably coming is as well. Only Walker was a bummer if he does sign.

Nate Harris may be our best starter next season. Expect a year 2 bump and the potential was there. If L Harris makes the rotation, will likely be as mid-week starter. Guy from WKU could play the long reliever role you describe. We’ll see. Still hoping Walker comes back.

This might be my own preference showing, and I've mentioned it before, but my take on the midweek is to throw a freshman or redshirt freshman there. Basically a guy you want to ease into college baseball a bit who you think might be able to be a weekend starter moving forward. Leighton is a guy who pitched in 10 games last year, including throwing an inning in the regional tournament. So, I think he has had enough time to probably get comfortable against college hitters and could contribute more on the weekend than the midweek.

That being said, this is all dependent on a couple things. First off, do we have a freshman or redshirt freshmen that we feel good about as a midweek guy that has the potential to grow to be a weekend guy? Second, how does someone like Leighton do out of the bullpen? Does he have that mindset, or is he much better as a starter? If he is much better as a starter, then you may want to just keep letting him cut his teeth in the midweek. One thing I might think could work well also is that when UK has those early in the year twice in the midweek games that he could take one of those while the 'regular' midweek guy starts the other. This gives him more innings and more time getting comfortable on the mound, but means that by SEC he's expected to be a weekend contributor.

However, my thought process on this was born out of the days of old and with the transfer portal, it seems that UK is taking fewer freshmen pitchers and relying more heavily on transfers. So, it is likely that means that the midweek guys will end up being a bit older and more experienced than years past.

Barring injury my bet would be Jelkin, Cleaver and N. Harris start the season as our weekend starters

If Walker signs I think they would almost have to use L. Harris in the pen in the Nove role. He and Soucie would be the only LHP in the pen with college experience

Don't sleep on Connor Mattison filling that multi inning shut down reliever role. When it comes to swing and miss stuff he is right with Jelkin and Cleaver. If healthy Chase Alderman may be your 9th inning guy. There are reports his FB was touching 97 before the knee injury.

I agree with Comeback on the younger guys filling the MW starting role. Tristan Hunter, Burkley Bounds and Bryson Treichel are possibilities. Hunter has an SEC arm it’s just a matter of commanding the stuff. Bounds and Treichel were starters as true freshmen in lower level conferences last year.
