At one point, Calipari was leading for Dybantsa, Peterson, Wilson, Acuff, Thomas, and Johnson. Now, it looks like he might only end up with two of them if he's lucky.
WCS said that it was Calipari that attracted recruits to UK. If that was the case then he should be signing four or five 5-Star recruits to Arkansas every year...... I bet he doesn't

To me, it looks like Pope is zeroing in on these guys:

PG Mikel Brown / Acaden Lewis
SG Johnson
SF Tounde Yessoufou / Braylon Mullins
PF Caleb Wilson / Chris Cenac (maybe Ament here too)
C Moreno

(Yes, I know Johnson could be recruited for the PG spot as well)

And he may not get all 5 positions, but it would be really nice to get at least 4 of the above as that would mesh well with Perry, Chandler, Oweh, Noah, and Garrison (hopefully)

Then he could focus on 1 or 2 premier transfer guy in the spring.

Also the nice Serbian PF Bundalo, who just visited UConn, but have to wonder if UK didn't show up 4-deep for Wilson because they are afraid Bundalo will commit to UConn. (He hasn't yet).

Getting Acuff as the PG was a massive hit as many guys who are talented do NOT want to play with him. Doesn't mean he will be a bad player, but his playing style isn't favored by talented guys who prefer to touch the ball more. For instance, one reason UK pivoted with Trae Young who committed to them on his in-home with them was due to the fact other top players in that class didn't like how he played-preferred Quade Green and most didn't know about SGA's ability at all so that didn't factor in. Also Cal thought he could get Bamba by landing Green.

Young was great in his one man show in Norman and Green was one of the biggest busts in Cal's tenure.

I like Bundalo. He seems like the better offensive player of that group, except maybe Ament

You may be right, but it looks like pope has lines in the water for Wilson, cenak, ament, and maybe bundalo. If we can hook one of those then mission accomplished.
Cenac, I think they've got a legit shot with. Rest I'd be surprised. Bundalo would be the 2nd most likely out of that group listed.

I think Ament is a longshot and Wilson based on some things I've been told from someone who would know be shocking.

Not questioning you, but generally curious. If you know that getting Wilson would be shocking, how does pope not know that? I would imagine he would have someone that knows tell him? Or does he know and think he can still get him?

I’ve seen it stated by multiple people elsewhere that Wilson and his family are all enamored with Calipari.

And it’s likely Pope does know that. But sometimes you keep showing interest and recruiting guys that you know are unlikely for different reasons.

Networking is big in recruiting. Trainers and coaches have other guys that will be good players down the line.

Scouting. We’re probably going to be playing against Wilson.

New!: Possibly driving the price up for your competitors in the NIL era.

You don’t think coaches help price gouging by making rumored deals? Deals that are blown up here and then make national news? Never happens

I appreciate reading about what you’re hearing, even when it’s not always as positive for UK in regard to a player as we might like. Plus, you always just offer up things you’ve heard without claiming what you’ve heard is infallible. Your credibility is high with me, and your posts add a lot to this board. Thanks.

Pope won't add more then 4 or 5 depends He'll mix in the portal transfer to fill out his classes I think

After many years of resisting the trend, now that Pope is here I look askance at any non-center who doesn’t have reputation as a good three point shooter. Give me Brown, Mullins, and Ament to close out the class. Is that asking too much?

He's doing his job and trying to swing for the fences. He's also after Ament. Those 2 won't be playing together anywhere either. So he's doing what he should be doing. It's his job.

Since this is Pope's first summer on the road as UK's coach, a hat on the table for a couple of top 5 guys in Wilson and Ament is not necessarily a bad thing.

Maybe the play is to play with Acuff then , I hope not.

I concur, plus he never acts like he’s a big shot. If something happens that he said, he doesn’t use it to get more street cred or internet fame. I love his insight.

I think he'd take 6 if it goes the way he wants it to:

Brown - point guard
Johnson - combo guard
Mullins - combo wing
Yessoufou - combo forward
one of Cenac Jr., Ament, Wilson, Bundalo.
Moreno - center

Realistically, we get five of those guys.

You bring back five returners.

Then add three from the portal.
