I watched UNC a couple of times late in the season and I was not impressed with Jackson. Looked like an average player to me. Of course the games Davis I saw was the guy doing all the scoring.
He had a bad last 6 games or so but I think he wasn’t happy with his role. When they started winning a few games in a row there about 2/3 of the season in he had a stretch of like 7 games where he scored 22 or more. Instead of Hubert figuring out he should be the guy he went right back to ignoring him during the stretch run.

We suddenly in for jackson, if we are out on wilkerson
I definitely want Lamar regardless but may as well go after both. Word is we are still in the Ament sweepstakes although the last report I seen said we have zero shot so maybe the staff is conceding that money to use for Jackson now.

You know what they say, it never hurts to ask.
I think Pope would offer him the same role as he was offering Yates, Pierre, and Wilkerson and for around the same amount.
I don't think he would guarantee a starting position though.
I think it will be St John's in the end.
St. Johns will offer too much $

We are being realistic.
Pope didn't recruit anyone Cal had on the team, or in his incoming class. Pope appeared to wipe the slate clean.
Also, it looked to me like Quaintance had several schools interested in him and he wanted UK.
Yeah he took less money to come here, apparently he really wanted Pope to re-recruit him last year, but for some reason it didn’t happen. Makes me happy and I think he really wanted to be here all along. I think he will be out to prove he’s a beast being draft eligible now. Maybe he will be great but still have enough to improve on we get him 2 years anyway. His shooting can use work for sure.

1. How can UK lose a kid to St Johns ( I get the NY thing)....but seriously. He's leaving UNC for$$$$ not to go home. Geez...I am not exactly sure why he's not in NBA draft to be honest.
2. To argue Jackson was an average player.....scored 12 pts (which isn't great) but 45% FG and 39% 3pt.....very solid for a FR. I'd be over the moon to get Jackson for PG. Now he isn't a playmaker for others....but we can develop that and in a 5 out offense....it's not critical anymore.
That is his home, born and raised plus it’s where he played high school ball. It’s why they are the favorite. Ian Jackson was born in Harlem, New York, but grew up in The Bronx, New York.

when I watch few games of unc last year he was the only player that stood out. If we can get him would be very nice. Superb athlete with a good shooting.

Lewis was recruited to UK with the expectation he would apprentice with a top portal PG for one season and then ascend to the lead position for his remaining years here. Lowe changed that because he has two years of eligibility.

I suppose Ian Jackson could play a little point on an emergency basis like Robinson did but that is not his position. He would fill the same role as Wilkerson/Yates/Pierre. If he comes here and Lowe needs a blow, the nod will go to Jasper Johnson unless he is in foul trouble or injured.
When was that said?

This is what I found: “A lot of guys are older, talking about Kerr (Kriisa), Lamont (Butler) — they won’t be here next year, which leaves a little gap for me to come in and run the team. That was Pope’s pitch, basically,” Lewis said.”

Last night Field of 68 said from what they're hearing it's Dook then TN then the other 3 for Ament.

Crazy, he knew and even said in an interview that he knew the plan was to try and get Wilson or another talented freshman to finish the class, the he knew they would add at least 4 guys in the portal. I can’t believe adding one guard pushed him out. That is super weak when he knew more players would have to be added. It’s not like he recruited 4 guards.

You obviously don't know about the War Chest Pitino has built in NY for St. John's. In addition when the NCAA Settlement $ comes-that $ will be funneled into the program for him-he won't have to worry about splitting that up with FB like other Conferences will.

There is always a lot more to the story.

Yeah, I think JQ signing shows somewhat that he wants to be part of The UK experience. Seems like a good kid. I kinda wonder if he “took less” with some promises of some more depending on how he heals and whether or not he’s able to give us a full season. Maybe some deferred compensation?

I don't think we know what his motivations are.

Money matters, but if it's a secondary concern, he may take less from St. John's. The chatter is that JQ took 1 M from UK and had a bigger offer from Auburn. He cared more about being at Kentucky.

If Jackson wants to be home, he may tell St. John's "Give me this much and my bags are packed."

They all make it clear they want to be at UK, lol. Until they don't. He didn't have a lot of choices. And he wants to go to the NBA.

Edit: he also didn't want to be at UK bad enough that he was willing to play for Pope last season. People need to be realistic.
JQ and his dad alluded to it being more of it being Pope who didn’t re-recruit/prioritize him last season

Great news. Seeing Jackson the 1st half of last season, I thought he was a one & done lottery pick. If there's someway we could land him or Lamar Wilkerson & then find us a 7'0 footer from overseas that can bury the 3. Sign them up ASAP & let's start the season tomorrow.
Talk about optimism! I'm in.

Admittedly I don’t know much about ACL tears but I had heard though they are tricky to recover from. That is good news to me usually it isn’t a repetitive issue.
JQ is a furure NBA guy, you can bet your mortgage he's getting the best possible treatment and physical therapy there is and he chose to bet on Pope and UK. I love that

We have to consider who was coaching those guys at uNC. I never looked at Hubert Davis as a legit coach. He would be a good assistant, but head coach? No, he doesn't have the nuts for it and the results bare thst out sans one tournament run, where the team clicked.

He is the reason they didn't have a big man this year, but he had legit guards and wings and they had a cheese ball schedule. I hope he stays in that coaches chair at AFAM-U for decades.

I bet Jackson is a star, he just needs the right coach and system. I know just the place for him.

The more I find out about Pope's actions last fall and summer, the more I am convinced his thought process was to cleans the program of anything Calipari related and that includes all recruits that were most likely promised stupid ****.
Pope had Orlando Antiqua if he wanted him, but he turned his nose up at him. I love that move by Pope, it tells me he hated what Cal turned UK into.

If sju is involved and wants him, we're not a real player.

What was he supposed to say? Maybe its true, but he said exactly what he should've said.
He has said all the right things, but he took less money to come to UK and his noticable excitement in interviews about UK, is enough intel for me to make that statement.

I remember pretty clearly that Pope tried to get some to say, especially JQ. Pope even had a meeting setup with him.

Pope didn’t recruit him once he took the job. It’s been pretty well reported that they (JQ and his father) wanted Pope to recruit him.

Stop talking out of your *** for once on this board.

Pope did in fact try to get some of Cal's guys to stay.
