It would appear that he’s going to try to run an NBA system where bench players can expect significant minutes every game. Not sure that dog hunts in the college game because the other team isn’t doing the same thing.

Ugochukwo has some Divine athleticism. He seems to be able to finish with ease with right, left hand, using euro, floater , the glass . He is a little bit wild since he relies on his athleticism and speed, but also good defensive.

If he is Perry replacement, he will be an upgrade. If he can drive like in scouting report and he is sour weed by shooters, he might be dangerous forcing defense to collapse. Since he was freshman , after next year he could become a starter after works on his shot.

Sign him up!

(although I still think that sometimes when we are linked to a player or when the word is we've contacted them, it's not always with the intent to get them on the team for next year. I think Pope is playing the long game.)

This is a perfect end of the rotation piece. I do not expect us to add another player primed for big minutes unless Oweh were to leave

The poor 3 pt shooters we have recruited last year and this year.

We were ranked 27th on the country last year in 3 point percentage so we didn't have too many last year. This year remains to be seen.

I am not saying Pope signed a bunch of apparent snipers for 2025-2026, kinda agree with @Creed Bratton here... but maybe it's b/c we are using "poor" unequally?

@Ella Delby - how do you define poor? For example, I would consider anything >33% as decent (not poor), and anything >38% as above average/good, >40% as really good, and when you start pushing the 45% or above mark, that's elite.

By those standards, I think we will have a bunch of above average/good shooters, and maybe one or two really good shooters and one or two decent shooters. No elite shooters on the roster, but also no poor shooters (of the guys that will be asked to shoot them). I think Williams will be our best shooter at around 40% and Garrison will be our worst around 33%. Everyone will be somewhere in between that, IMHO. I don’t think Quaintance or Moreno will shoot enough from 3 to make much difference either way.

33% of 3 is the same as 50% from 2. so that is average. 34-37 is above average to good and 38%+ is good to great.

This guy , did we really reach out to him interested or is the players camp using it to boost his worth and offers? Doubt we get him anyways. If Perry doesnt want that role, why would this guy want it unless we really over pay for him to be happy on the bench and Pope has shown he wont massively overpay

and of the lower overall % 3pt shooters we got, they are good catch and shoot 3pt shooters which Pope likes in his offense. Meaning they cut down on their off the dribble 3's then that will raise their 3pt % like it did with guys last year like Butler.

Yeah, got 20 Mins a game at Miami as a freshmen. I wouldn't move from Miami to Lexington to never play much.

I'd be living it up n south beach.

Hear me out on this. If they haven’t already try to look at some of these guys. Mind you they are BAD in defensive rating but for a deep replacement and spot playing could be interesting No particular order.

Owen Koonce 6’5-41%
Marko Maletic 6’6-46%
TJ Wainwright 6’3 -40%
Cooper Noard 6’2 - 41%
Gabe Dorsey 6’6- 43%

Not sure if they are looking at back up PG, SG, PF/Stretch4 12-14 player

He looks like he can do most everything other than shoot the 3. He needs to improve his turnovers, as well. But most Freshman guards going into their sophomore years do.

I like his competitive spirit and and athleticism. If he is willing to come in and compete for minutes at the PG/SG slot knowing we have a really good roster, he is the kind of guy you want on the team. We don’t need guys who are expecting PT without competition. The question is are we really interested or just driving the price up?

I trust Pope will get a guy he wants in the position of "Break Glass in Case of Emergency" type of player. Be it a guy that shoots 10% from 3 or 75% from 3. If Pope wants the guy then so be it.

I still expect we get one to two more guys that will be that type of player. Probably a PF/SF type of guy and a Combo or PG type of guy.

According to whom?

Not sure which part of the post you meant according to whom for?

We're in touch with this guy according to the Sea of Blue reporter above, as well as Jack Pilgrim and Jacob Polachek

He's a 12th or 13th man depth piece to replace Travis Perry according to common sense. That's based on who we have on our roster already and the production this kid has.

He's not getting minutes over Lowe, Jasper, Aberdeen or Chandler at the PG or SG spots.

I would say he would be here to compete for minutes. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if he looked better early in the season(if we landed him) than JJ. I think JJ is going to struggle more than people expect. He is going to be bullied in the beginning. The question is will he fight back for playing time or turn in and be satisfied with the payday.

Certainly a possibility.

But the several laughing emojis and likes I have since received in response to it tells me it likely wasn't my joke that was the problem.
What about the replies refuting your post, do you consider those or just the likes you receive? I consider written lists more valuable than likes or smiles. Sorry, it just came across as an excuse for a post that others thought was way of base. This will be my last response to you as you're just now into insulting. Kind of odd for a person with such a high sense of humor.

my thoughts exactly. A guy that can break down the perimeter pressure by driving to the hole like Butler did. Only he makes them when he gets there (sorry Butler, I still love you).

For everyone's consideration:

According to MaxPreps, Divine shot 29% from three his junior year of high school (38-132) and... 37% his senior year (47-126). He also averaged 76.5% from the charity stripe during those two seasons.

There's a damn-good shooter in there waiting for some solid coaching. I'm actually excited to see if he picks UK.

I am good with those stats. The way I saw him in highlights playing, he is extremely fast. Chances are some of the shots were rushed . Shooting can always be improved. If Pope sees something in him, I think he has a better eye and data to rely upon that we do.

Honest question, but wasn’t it like 5 years ago if you shot over 30% you were a good shooter?

Maybe but I was just throwing out the figures based on the SRI…
the Sanders Rating Index

A completely arbitrary estimate of shooting percentages I made up on the fly in my post.

So, it’s basically fool proof.

Looks like very solid numbers for a freshman. Could turn into quite a player down the road.
