my thoughts exactly. A guy that can break down the perimeter pressure by driving to the hole like Butler did. Only he makes them when he gets there (sorry Butler, I still love you).
This guy is exactly what we need for those late game situations with Lowe and Aberdeen fatigued and/or in foul trouble and facing full court pressure. He has speed, quickness, handle, court vision and will make free throws. We don't need him to be a three-point shooter in those moments. We need him to protect the lead and win the game. Actually, he looks perfectly capable of giving Lowe a break whenever without hurting us, including defensively. He's an upgrade over Perry in every respect and with his year of experience in the ACC, I would take him over Lewis as well.

Would be a great backup for Lowe. His speed, athleticism, driving ability and finishing and defense would be a great sub for Lowe. Would give us two true ones to handle the ball with speed and a threat of getting to the rim a lot. Hope we get him. Can already see about five SEC refs going after Lowe knowing we don't have a similar type of backup at that position.

There's been a pattern recently on the lower level transfer portal players we have reached out to.. they are all legit fairly high-level athletes.. Jayden Glover, this Miami guy, the recent guy out of NC A&T (can't remember school).

We all know Perry's flaws were mostly length/athleticism. His other flaw was inexperience/nerves/confidence as a freshman that had to play minutes when he wasn't ready. Veteran Perry will shoot 40+% from 3, and that makes it easier to play him if he's shooting at an elite level.

Seems like Pope learned about the SEC what the NBA already knows.. low level defensive players need to be ELITE in something (preferably shooting/scoring) or you can't play them.

I like the idea of trying to develop high level athletes, especially if one hits and becomes an NBA draft pick. Other idea would be to try and get a reclass from a 2026 player to play a bench role and get paid. In SEC though, that player can't be too underdeveloped physically unless they can make up for it with length and/or athleticism.

Don't put to much into it yet.
If Pope signs him then fine but this is probably early in the process you got to see what he expects.
If he is fine with competing for playing time them fine he will do.

He was 6 of 34 from 3 in 28 games. That is a very low number to base something off of a bunch could of been running out of clock desperation shots.

EDIT looking at his stats now I would not really be looking at him other than a bench warmer.
20mins a game 5.3 points.
About 4/5 shots per game.

Nobody is putting too much into it, they're all just talking about this guy, just like they are with Sarr and any other valuable guys still on the plate.
Yup, he went 6-34, but I look at it like I'm kicking the tires on a used car… yeah, it's got great potential, put some new wheels on it, tune the motor and install a new intake… but that dent in the rear quarter panel, well, that's going to knock the value down. I gotta fix that, sooo yeah, thanks for the discount, where do I sign?

We had 4 guys that shot 35% or better on last year's team. 2 of those, Butler and Oweh, weren't considered good shooters prior to coming to UK.

So, yea, there were several on last year's team as well.
That should tell ya to leave it up to the coaches

Honest question, but wasn’t it like 5 years ago if you shot over 30% you were a good shooter?
It’s always been about 36%+ was the threshold for a “good” shooterr. It depends on amount taken and stuff like that, but in general anything over that is good, 39%+ was great, 45%+ was Elite.

He is not coming here

I would not think we would get anyone else looking to play for this year. I could see us take a reclassify that would redshirt until their actual year. Maybe High School kid like that one who visited who would be good redshirting, or with playing very limited minutes especially after December. Someone who could be a contributor in year 2 in the system and with weight training under his belt. Maybe we take a foreign player who needs a year to get stronger or is a year behind being ready to play D1.
