I think thats gonna be a take away for me this game: we need elite talent. At least one or two. Moreno looks the part and sure enough, hes an elite recruit (or close to one).
You can beat teams without having it (Last year vs Duke). But it takes an almost perfect performance.

Sucks to say this but Louisville just looks much, much, MUCH better than us.
Everyone looks good when making shot. Law of averages my man. It will catch up and they will miss. This isn’t the norm for them. They do look better than us no doubt but we are playing scared and shook and they are riding the high. Play this game 10 time and it’s 5-5. We aren’t done yet, we will make a run.

The old pack line defense is befuddling us a tad offensively. It's compounded by about 4 wide open misses from deep.

We are too stretched to help defensively. Conversely, when we drive, it doesn't matter much if we get past the first defender. There's another nearby to pester the handler. Louisville is defending as a unit while we are out on islands.

Ive said this about Cal at times and ill apply it to Pope: the head coach can't do it all. Some assistant coach isnt pulling their weight if this is how we continue to look some games (going into last year).

We have like 4 assistants and an entire staff. UofL seems like they will be a quality team all year, but we look unprepared.

Good thing we worked so much on defense in the preseason. Holy effing shizzle! Being run off the floor. And we haven't missed a freethrow...go figure.

Oweh was never going to be an elite, go-to guy for us. He’s Archie Goodwin with a better team around him. Nothing against Goodwin, but he wasn’t a guy you were going to hitch your wagon to if you want to win a title.

We need JQ to be elite in the worst kind of way.

Also, why does our offense look completely inept?

Exactly why pope was never gonna be the man needed
I’ve gone back and forth with this and I’m leaning towards him not being what’s needed. So far he’s done everything here that he did at BYU and that’s not gonna cut it overall. We will know FOR SURE by the end of year 3 if he’s the right coach for UK, if it’s not already clear before then.

We have a guy that’s getting absolutely smoked on defense and pope keeps playing him. I try not to bash players publicly but you all know who I’m talking about. Hes been a defensive liability and he’s why Browns getting all of those open looks from what I’ve seen

If your offense is pass and jack, you better knock’em down. 23% ain’t knocking enough.

We can not defend the lane. Without this, you can not win. WAY too much emphasis on offense and defense is suffering. Pass and jack offense with a leaky defense = loss.

The UL coach will still be short and ugly no matter who wins.

If they shake the nerves this season they might be really good. We will see. Otherwise rough season ahead.
