I really don't think it's even mostly him- BUT it is his job to fix it.

You don't have the wins he did last year and not be a decent coach. Something is very wrong with this team. I just don't know what.

There is no fixing it. Pope missed badly on the portal. Hopefully he learns from this and does better next year. If he can't put together a good team and get to at least the Elite 8, then he has to go.

I'm with you until the Hawthorne part. He'd just be another non-impact role player, nothing he's going to change.

Your point on the focus on defense is spot on -- this team has no high end basketball talent. It's clear as day and not sure why people keep trying to argue otherwise. When you don't have talent, you need to make up for it with relentless effort (defense, win 50/50 balls). That's the real kiss of death of this team -- they suck, AND they don't give the effort.

I really was trying to be more positive and understanding for Pope but the fact he thought he had a Ferrari clearly tells me Pope cannot evaluate talent and assemble a team.
