Coming from a Duke fan, that's a condolence haha. Yes, I agree Monk was in another universe tonight. He and Fox were the difference makers. If I can take any solace in tonight, it's that we were fully capable of beating one of the top 5 teams in the country. We didn't fold, we didn't give up. But we lost, and in the end that's the only thing that shows up on a stat sheet.
We'll have to play well. Both are really good.
I think the 'neither team plays defense' argument is a little weak. Both of those teams just play a lot of offense, if that makes sense. You could have had a 15-second shot clock for three-quarters of the game and never had a single violation.
It's kind of one of those games where you would have almost preferred to lose by 15 if you were going to lose. UNC fans went from way high to way low pretty quick in this one. I was kind of on the other end of that spectrum.
But that was a fun game. If anybody, for some odd reason, was questioning how good UNC is capable of being they should have smartened up after watching that. Both U.K. and UNC are very legit.

It was a classic. No doubt about that. And as you said, I was hyped up for about a solid minute until Monk dropped that dagger.
But both teams are right up there. Top 5 I believe. And though I'll probably drink myself to death tonight, the loss wasn't a complete downer. We played some damn good ball against a consensus top 5 team. But again, the win is what matters. We didn't get it. Gotta focus on ACC play now.
I actually don't disagree with Roy NOT calling the timeout with 15 seconds left. There seem to be a lot of UNC fans upset about that.
If I'm a UNC fan, I'm more frustrated with the play he drew up with 1.4 left on the clock. I'm sorry, but a 60-foot, cross court pass is going to work one out of maybe 25 times against a team like UK. That was a horribly designed play that had a less than 10% chance of even being inbounded, let alone executed.

It was a great game to watch. unc really played well and if Monk hadn't been so hot unc would have won by double figures. I have to be honest and say once unc got the lead I started getting sick. I don't know if I could have stood it if unc had won even though it was UK but once again unc impressed me and they are a contender. OFC
It was a good game to watch, I really enjoyed it. With that being said, I feel really comfortable in Duke beating UNC or Kentucky after watching them today and that's without Giles. Obviously both could improve but I feel as of today we have a better team then both. Not to mention 1000x better of a coach.

Honestly, it's one of the worst set plays I've ever seen. Ever.
Both unc and uk played great offensively, in fact it was such great offense on each side that it prevented any defensive challenges. The defense never had time on many plays to get set. I don't think either team could duplicate their performance from tonight. They were both playing beyond their normal.

I never said they weren't a good team. I just think some teams have a higher ceiling than them come March and I still believe that. They played very well today on offense and jackson finally looked like the guy that was ranked so high coming out of high school. Good for them. I give them credit they could have lost that gave by 10 or 15 with the way monk was playing and the pro uk crowd.
Agreed I literally had my jaw on the floor after the game. I thought we had it won and Monk again..But It was just an awesome game to witness and I cant be mad at the effort UNC gave.I know you all here dont think Theo is a big deal but with the foul situation and Monk doing what he did-that was his matchup I doubt he goes for 50 if he was available.

Negative!! Kid is #1 pick regardless if he plays another year. He needs to sit bench so he doesn't get hurt and hurt his chances. If he leaves next year that'll be good for us. I'm honestly not sure how we are gonna handle him.
And if Monk doesn't play the game of his life UNC probably wins rather comfortably. And while you never said they weren't a good team, you did say this....

I'm not high on unc because I don't think they can stop good team from scoring. It was the same thing that worried me about our team until lately. I don't care how jackson looked against average teams. Today I give him respect because he stepped up against one of the better teams in the country. He made alot of big plays and was their best player
Hopefully Monk won't have that kind of performance against Louisville and Louisville can beat them. Louisville may not be that good on offense but they are a good defensive team.
Agreed hope Louisville beat them this week. I'm sure they will play tough defense. I don't know If they can score enough to win though
I agree Jackson had a big game but he wasn't being guarded by a legit 3/sf. Briscoe played him most of the game and had height advantage. both teams played great offense but I'm always looking at ways Duke stacks up to them. I believe tatum would be able take Jackson away when a Duke matches them later. Unc had little help from its bench and Hicks is I'm constant foul trouble when faced with bigger , stronger big men
Duke goes into UNC with a traditional 2 bigs, Tatum and 2 guards. Rotating bigs in that are fresh with Amile Giles, Bolden getting most of the burn then Chase adding some minutes.
UNC's 4 bigs are decent and will out weigh Duke in the paint.

It amazes me because many people who looked at it without blinders were basically spot on with their earlier posts and projections.
Then I look at a lot of the posts post-game and they just do not make sense.
Kentucky and UNC are both top 10 defensive teams in college basketball based on efficiences.
You can argue overmatched earlier opponents, sure. But, UNC completely shut down Wisconsin at their style of game. Completely utterly shut them down.
Both teams ran. Neither team slowed it down til really the very end. Expecting there to not be a lot of points is just silly.
And, I do not care who the hell was guarding Monk tonight, he was going for 30+. He made so many strongly contested shots that it makes me sick.
Saying how you will dominate either team because they do not play defensive is just weird. I am not positive, but I think stats right now have both teams as better defensive teams than Duke (granted you are not your full team yet).
Monk played lights out. End of story. One of the greatest individual performances I have seen in college basketball in a meaningful game.
Very disappointed we lost because I think if Jackson hits his final free throw on the and 1 that we would have won. Unfortunately he did not.

I don't think Duke easily beats either team, but I guarantee neither one puts up 100 on us. We would close down passing lanes enough to prevent such open play.
As in shut down, got them to miss a lot of wide open 3's and uncontested 2's then I agree.
I believe that UNC defense is a lot better than what they showed against UK, and will be even better by the time they meet up with Duke. With that being said I watched the Wisconsin game and the only defense being played on the Badgers was by the rim and backboard.
Slice Duke up? Lol, Matt Jones and Jackson can defend, and Luke and Grayson would keep the UK guards running on D. Duke would have their hands full but slicing is a bit much IMO. Briscoe on Tatum? Please do that!!!
Side note - Briscoe and Tyler Thornton remind me of each other on the defensive end, and I remember Tyler doing his best to take on bigger wings...
