Schnall is now free, go get him! that is the best hire for multiple reasons I won't get into right now. thats who they should hire, but I have my doubts they will. Schnall would be home run hire. Sabins could be good too but its a little riskier right now I think Schnall checks all the boxes and would get the fan base back involved again.

I like the West Virginia guy myself, but whoever it is will have a tough row to hoe, what with nil, portal, and an entitled fanbase. The squeaky wheels seem to believe that we just have a fouled cylinder that needs replacing but it goes beyond that I fear.

I think Fitzgerald is the best choice. He can build a program, which we need. Schnall may be a good hire, but he inherited a good program. We are a dumpster fire right now. I have doubts the Schnall can build a program.

Its a two horse race between Schnall and Sabins. Fitz has cooled hes either staying put or going elsewhere. and Schnall still IMO is the clear best choice of the two (ties to state of SC, elite recruiter/talent evaluator, proven program builder, proven assistant coach, then head coach (2025 COY) 56 wins last year, 49 years old, fan favorite. Sabins might be a good coach as well I wouldnt be angry, but I think you go get Schnall.

If its Schnall he could bring over Matt Williams at Pitching coach which would be home run hire as well.

Following that analogy, it's more likely the cam shaft and lifters. Have to take the damn thing apart to fix it.

No one will agree with me but I think Landon should be the guy hired. This tourney shows small schools can compete with big schools in baseball, and that is everyones concern with Landon. He can recruit and has good coaches to bring with him. He is a proven winner and has built a program from nothing. He develops talent and has good repore with all the high school coaches and players. Wont happen but someone takes a chance and all gamecock fans can talk about what could have been. That you can count on. You have to understand this state and relate with the kids today.

I say wait, no need to hurry on Scnhall as I think there are better options out there, explore those options first.

it seems to be a two horse race Schnall or Sabins. I just think Schnall is a better fit
why is he a better fit? Also, we actually don't know if there are other coaches being considered, so let's not be so hasty here.

Despite what the "insiders" are telling you, there could be other coaches under consideration and perhaps our experienced AD is being discrete as he should be. Furthermore, just because Coastal got bounced quicker does not mean we need to move on him right away, if he really wants this job, then he can wait until Donati has explored all of his options.

Methinks Landon is content at NGU. Having stated that, I don't disagree with you.

Kevin Schnall easily is still #1 in all those listed above. Also the fact Schnall is available now, Donati can lock in the contract now and get going on recruiting right away. where as West Virginia is likely going to Omaha (they host Cal Poly in the supers) and will be a wait. That's huge. The Portal opened today, Time is money

I think its more important to get the right coach than to settle for someone else just to get a jump on portal recruiting for one class.

Pulling for Troy.
Could we snag Meade if he wins the CWS?
He Likely doesn't have the horses to get out of the Super but he does have them playing at a high-level right now.

My only concern is his overall record at Troy is comparable to what Kingston did in his previous stops. That was the main reason I did not want Kingston.

I went to the 7th game of the Atlanta Regional on an SRO ticket. I stood way down the right field line, adjacent to the Oklahoma bullpen. Had a pleasant conversation with the Sooner grad student pitching coach who stated that Cal Poly has a very good team. Do not underestimate them.

He also mentioned that from their perspective that Schnall is our front-runner.

I plan to post a few photos from that game in another thread.

except hes the best available the portal is a bonus.
You could be correct in your assumption. I don't have any knowledge of anything that makes him so far better than other coaches in consideration, of which we have no idea. I'm really hoping for the best because baseball is special to me.

Something I noticed that all of our "top" targets (Schnall @ Coastal, Ramsey @ GT, Sabins @ WVU) are all assistants that recently took over for coaches who retired and may be riding the coattails of success that their former bosses may be more responsible for. The only one of the guys Ive seen mentioned in this search who has built a program from nothing is Fitzgerald @ Kansas.

Gary Gilmore the long time coach at CCU endorsed Schnall, theres no evidence anywhere that Schnall is only good because of the state of Gilmores program riding his coattails or something. as we saw with Holbrook its not that easy to follow a legendary coach, Schnall has a top reputation in college baseball nationally by himself and players want to and love playing for him.

Sounds a lot like when Ray Tanner hired Chad Holbrook. Not saying its the wrong move, but it sure does seem like we've seen this show before. I think there is something to be said for if we really consider ourselves as a blue blood program, do we really want to hand the keys to someone who would be still learning on the job on how to be a head coach?

I am starting to wonder if Schnall isnt the primary target. I feel like if he was, the deal would have been done by now.

I wonder if an announcement will not be made until the conclusion of the CWS?
