Thinking about what we don't know that will key for this coming year and the hope we are building for the two years after that.

Does this team have the foot speed to defend man to man in the Big Ten. In years the team lacked that speed it would have to revert to zone, which is not what Collins wants to do. When it is capable of playing man, it does pretty well on D.

Does this team have enough shooters. Seems really obvious, but last year the team could not knock down shots, and that was with an elite shooter in Taylor joining the squad. It's not enough to replace Vic and Taylor, this team has to show it is more lethal from three. Kopp, Nance, Turner and Greer consistently shooting above .333 from distance in conference play opens up the lanes for other opportunities.

Does this team have multiple players who can create off the dribble and then convert at the rim. What has been lost is the automatic go-to feed into Pardon who could convert against virtually any Big Ten post player. That has to be replaced with non post offense this year. Boo Boo looks pretty capable. Gaines seemed to get better and does it in a power sort of way. Turner not running the offense may contribute. But together are they a threat to other Big Ten teams? I could not say today.

For this thing to go anywhere, this is the question that needs a positive answer: Do Nance and Kopp (or even two other options) have the potential to score 12-15+ per game in B10 play? Not against Merrimack, SIU-E or DePaul.

And Medill is right. '19-'20 needs some mix of threats off the dribble and from outside. One dimension (or God forbid, no dimensions), and we'll have that empty feeling again.

Will be interesting to see. Patrick is another possible option and Beran too. Of the 8 non-post players, we need 3 to be reliable three shooters.

Nance and Kopp are the guys. They have to believe it. They have to be it.

Last year, they were at best fine, but didn’t look like stars, or even starters really.

I don’t expect much from this team, but I want to believe that those two can lead the team to the tourney as seniors (juniors).

At the end of last season, Kopp sure looked like he belonged. I'm looking for further improvement this year, and a quantum leap from Petey Nance.

re: Kopp
He had been so quiet for the better part of the month, and those final few weeks certainly were nice to see.

In his final five games, be shot 16-for-42 from the floor, and 6-for-23 from 3, averaging 9.2 ppg in 28mpg. They’re good numbers, and numbers to build on, starter numbers, and star-as-a-soph numbers for the optimistic fan. I hope the optimists are right.

Wow, those are good numbers? I can't imagine what "bad" numbers would be.
