Keys to the Season

A week ago, main concern was desire and possible dissension. UK played with desire and I saw a camaraderie not seen prior to Indiana.

Now my main concern is injuries with the following 3 players:

  1. Lowe - It is evident in his brief playing time this year that he has always played point guard. He is quick enough to get by his defender and a good playmaker to not panic when he gets inside the paint. This allows him to either score or find the open man easier than any other player on the roster as he has the attention of all 5 defenders. Aberdeen and Chandler are athletic enough to get into the lane but their tendencies are to shoot rather than find an open man. They are not natural point guards. JJ may develop into a Lowe type point guard but is, at present, looking for his own shot as an inexperienced freshman. Lowe is the key to any offensive improvement.
  2. Mo - he is our modern version of Chuck Hayes. Not a good shooter or player you draw plays for and not a large person at the 4 position. His natural ability is “tracking down the ball.” A shot goes up and he goes to the boards hunting rebounds. A great asset both offensively and defensively. He probably is a double double if he gets 25+ minutes per game.
  3. JQ - His size and leaping ability gives him the opportunity to be a great defensive presence and shot blocker that we don’t have now. No clue what he will bring offensively but believe he will clean up the defensive boards and garner more 2nd shots on offensive end.

If either of these 3 cannot play because of injury, we are in for a tough season and potentially will not make the tournament

This team gave up long ago.

One half of playing hard after being boo’ed off the court at halftime really doesn’t change much.

Unless it does?

We won’t know for several games. I’ll be shocked if they don’t play hard Saturday.

But will it continue?

I believe some fans gave up a long time ago. I'm not convinced this team has.

The fans never gave up.

You must not have watched the Mich St and Gonzaga games if you are not convinced this team has given up.

It the first half of the IU game.

Not being prepared to play and not trying to play cannot be blamed on the fans.

I spent $1000’s to watch them quit in Bridgestone last March.

Really never started to even get to quitting.

It’s inexcusable for the fans to be more vested in winning than the team is

All you have to read here every day and see that some fans have definitely given up. And I saw the fight turned the Indiana game that this team had and they have not yet given up they have had some bad games. There's no doubt of that.. the other thing is everybody said it was only the second half they played very good defense in the first half. They just couldn't hit a shot and then there was a small spurt where Indiana got the lead Charles Barkley said about the first half they played hard they just didn't play good

There is no doubt this team CAN look very different if everyone is healthy. That said, I still think the ceiling is lower than we all thought. I do think there's a world where this season ends closer to last year though than a bust.

0-4 against the big boys says we lost the keys before the season ever got started.
