Easy mistake... 6 inches in height and 60 lb difference, but who's counting? It wasn’t him. It was King Mack. The announcers didn’t know which #16 was which.
I don't. They are supposed to be professionals and do some pregame work. I could see from my living room in North Carolina that it wasn't Khalil Dinkins. We have 3 guys wearing 16, so, I could see how that could confuse announcers.
Yes, but announcers are not that smart.I don't. They are supposed to be professionals and do some pregame work. I could see from my living room in North Carolina that it wasn't Khalil Dinkins.
There's very few announcers that are going to remember everyone' name and number with a week to prep. Probably a spotter's fault but it happens.I don't. They are supposed to be professionals and do some pregame work. I could see from my living room in North Carolina that it wasn't Khalil Dinkins.

I am surprised that you could defend those two. They made a number of mistakes and missed several things during the game. There's very few announcers that are going to remember everyone' name and number with a week to prep. Probably a spotter's fault but it happens.
This is Gary Danielson's final season and perhaps Vern Lundquist should also consider retiring. They were both still very good a few years ago but they lost their fastball and often lose track of the game action. Kinda sad to listen, though Vern still has an iconic broadcast voice. Both announcers were off of their game. I'm a nostalgia guy but sometimes it's right in front of us in sports when a player, coach, announcer, etc loses their fastball.
Yes, but in your living room, you had just pounded another Schlitz malt liquor, and were wiping buffalo sauce from your chin while your only thoughts were "for my 30th wing, will I eat a flat or a drum?" and "why did that burp taste so rancid?" while the announcers have an incredible amount of responsibilities to discharge and information entering their noggin and leaving their mouths, so they were probably multitasking and weren't hyper-focused on "who is this particular PSU kick returner amongst the available options?"I don't. They are supposed to be professionals and do some pregame work. I could see from my living room in North Carolina that it wasn't Khalil Dinkins.
Really? You thought that was Dinkins? If you can link please do . Wow
I simply expect that. That's pretty much standard--just like refs and players aren't perfectI am surprised that you could defend those two. They made a number of mistakes and missed several things during the game.
Its an honest mistake. Dinkins is the only #16 we have been used to seeing the last couple years and I'll admit that when I saw it on TV, the first thing I thought was, "why is Dinkins returning the kick?" but then as I saw him get into the run, I remembered that Mack was also wearing 16.Really? You thought that was Dinkins?
I generally agree with what you’re saying, but I think if I was an announcer and was about to note that a kick was fielded by a *tight end* (back deep, not an up man), I would have a quick 2nd look at the roster for other 16s.I simply expect that. That's pretty much standard--just like refs and players aren't perfect
They're not local reporters that follow one team--they have 5 days to prep for a game--I don't think seeing a player with the number 16 and thinking Dinkins over Mack is that big of a deal. I'm sure they heard a lot about Dinkins all week--probably very little about King Mack. Hell, I'm sure a decent number of Penn State fans didn't remember who King Mack was.
I understand what you are saying, but they are getting paid to tell us what is happening on the field. I had never seen King Mack before so I didn't know who it was, but I new it wasn't Khalil Dinkins, and how much tv time has he gotten? On top of that, they have had the rosters, so they know there is more than 1 player with that number. When there is a flag on the play and they act surprised when the official announces a penalty, to me that just tells me they aren't paying attention to the game. Too often (I think the 2 guys from Fox are some of the worst ones) they rehearse things they want to say and then say them during the game even when what is happening on the field goes against what they are telling us. I just feel that as professionals they should do better. One of them is getting paid to just tell us what is happening. The other is getting paid to add commentary. If the job is too hard for them, they shouldn't do it.I simply expect that. That's pretty much standard--just like refs and players aren't perfect

Dude verne retired from college football years ago. This is Gary Danielson's final season and perhaps Vern Lundquist should also consider retiring. Think that’s Brad nessler with GD. I went to law school in Dayton …that where u live ?Dude verne retired from college football years ago.
I mean, Gerald Hodges returned kicks for us...lolI generally agree with what you’re saying, but I think if I was an announcer and was about to note that a kick was fielded by a *tight end* (back deep, not an up man), I would have a quick 2nd look at the roster for other 16s.
All fair--but there will be mistakes--as long as they correct them I'm cool with it. Doesn't make me right but I just laughed when they said Dinkins knowing they'd correct it.I understand what you are saying, but they are getting paid to tell us what is happening on the field. Watching the game Khalil Dinkins looked a lot bigger than 6-4 250. I would have guessed he is at least 260.Easy mistake... 6 inches in height and 60 lb difference, but who's counting?
King Mack, 5'10, 189, 4.35 40
Khalil Dinkins, 6'4, 250, 4.5 40
FYI Dinkins' 40 time is actually the PSU tight end record and is FLYING at that size!
Particularly Gary Danielson. He makes so many mistakes on broadcasts, thankfully he's finally hanging it up after this season.Yes, but announcers are not that smart.

ExactlyThey have spotters who tell them who's doing what on the field. I'll blame that guy, not the announcers.
Even so, those guys have watched enough football to know in an instant that wasn't a TE returning the kick. He was too small and too fast, it was obvious and they know enough about the game to spot the obvious error. Also idk if the spotters just tell them the player # or the name as well. It's very possible the spotter just says #16 and the announcers use their call sheets to get the name, at which point they would have seen multiple #16s and should have known that we aren't even going to use a big TE to return kicks (with apologies to Bill O'Brien and Gerald Hodges, lol). They have spotters who tell them who's doing what on the field. I'll blame that guy, not the announcers.
Yea it's really not that big a deal. The announcers made a mistake during the first game of the season. Move on.Its an honest mistake.
