The first weekend I lived in Lexington when I moved to college I was living in an apartment on South Broadway. I was on the ground floor and it was a 4 story building. One of my roommates and I heard a very loud thump and some screaming. We went outside and saw a guy lying on the ground unconscious and coughing up blood. He was drunk and thought it would be fun to try and jump between balconies, fell 4 floors, and banged his head on the hand rail.

EMTs showed up and put a neck brace on him and took him away. I was SURE I just saw someone die.

Few days later I was walking to class and there he was walking up the drive way, looking fine as ever. He had a broken wrist. And the reason he was coughing up blood was because he was knocked out a tooth, swallowing it, and then coughing it back up.

Good lord. The alcohol probably prevented him going into shock.
