Kind of OT, but I keep feeling worse and worse for Baylor

Baylor is not a basketball powerhouse and they had a great regular season with a team that had potential to make noise in the postseason. Sure anything can happen in the tournament, but they ended their regular season on a loss, but had a bright future in front of them before the circumstances wiped that away. Just imagine if the 2009-2010 Mountaineers never got a post season. At least WVU managed to end their regular season that year with a road win against the #9 team in the country. But the what might of been for the team, program, and fans would be just like the malaise around the '88 season when Major went down early in the game. This year's Baylor team may be that once in generation team for the a program at Baylor's level and no one will ever know. Guess it is just empathy.

The timing was terrible, I can’t imagine being a fan of Kansas or Baylor with the team they had this year. And I truly believe they could’ve played these games.

It couldn't have happened to a worse team. F'em. Glad they don't have a shot.

Dayton is the team to feel sorry for.

Everything was aligning for the Dayton's first Final Four since a Cinderella run to the title game in 1967. And then the coronavirus killed March Madness. First-team All-American Obi Toppin averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds and would have captivated those who had not seen him play.

If we are listing teams we feel bad for....I actually feel sorry for Rutgers.

The Jersey boys haven't been to the big dance in 29 years.

Lunardi had them in as a nine seed.

Very disappointing for them. I think they were #1 longer than any. Also lost two heartbreakers to OU in football, the Sugar Bowl & the coach all in a row. But Bay hoops will be a contender again next season & have been up there in bball for a while. In 09-10 they were one game away from facing us in Final Four instead of Duke.

Baylor next season loses Devonte Bandoo, Obim Okeke and Freddie Gillespie.

And WVU brings back everyone. Well, everyone who should play important roles. Plus 3 new guys with more potential than those they replace. Of course, we say that almost every season.

I feel bad for Bill Self and Kansas, because now they won't have a chance to vacate a year or two from now, assuming they won it all this year.

true, but they bring back 7 of their top 9 including three leading scorers. they bring back the best collection of guards who have already done all this before.

Yet they lost 3 of their final 5 games.

Devonte Bandoo, Obim Okeke were key guards off the bench for them. They also started several games. Baylor only played 7 guys for major minutes. The key for Baylor was Freddie Gillespie and Thamba off the bench. Stop Freddie and you pretty much slowed Baylor down to crawl.

KU will be the front runner again next year.
Baylor will be picked #2 but I don't think they finish that high. They played out their *** this year in a weak Big 12. Next year will be tougher.

Just about every team in Big 12 were playing freshman and sophomores in starting 5. Big 12 will be tougher next year. There will not be a 17-1 conference champion next season.

True. But, Scott Drew is a very good coach and I believe that his program in in the "Reload, not Rebuild" phase.

Baylor has never won the Big 12 with Scott Drew. He has been to Elite 8 twice and sweet 16 once. All others were early exits or NIT. This was the first year Baylor has ever contended for the Big 12 title. They came up short.

Drew is not that good of a coach. He is a great recruiter. The guy that makes Baylor go is Jerome Tang. He is in his 17th year coaching at Baylor, following 10 seasons as head coach at nationally recognized Heritage Christian Academy in Cleveland, Texas. He has been integral in the Bears’ rise to national prominence, serving his first 14 seasons on staff as assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach in 2017.

I don't consider Baylor a reload school. Hard working staff yes but not a reload. Just because you win games doesn't mean you are a reload type school.
