His reputation as an amazing recruiter has transitioned over to a head coach. Just got the number 2 player nationally according to ESPN and will most likely end up with a top 5 class.

Recruiting has never been Georgia's problem. They consistently have top 10 recruiting classes every year. The problems is winning consistently on the field. Let's see if Smart can change that.

I completely agree. Not sold on him but we shall see. Never had a problem with Georgia except when they play us or bama

We'll get to see his coaching aptitude with less excuses.

1. THey get Chubb/Michel back
2. They get a 5* Offensive Tackle which was their worst spot on team.
3. Eason has a year of experience under his belt.
4. They bring back a ton of defensive kids on a good unit.

They are wide open favorites to win the East...let's see what he does.

I beg to differ and argue they aren't the wide open favorite. UGA is a team that only beat UK by 3 points. A UK team that will be just as deep and just as talented next year. We will be in the hunt for the East next year. As will Florida and UT.

I think most of you overestimate how well UGA has recruited. We may have been top 10 most years, but that was only good for 5th or 6th in conference, usually behind Bama, AU, LSU, UF. Kirby has upgraded our recruiting, we still lose instate kids, number 1 kid for 18 committed to CU yesterday, but he is doing well instate and targeted kids out of state. We needed OT this class and we got the top 2 in Georgia, the kid from New York today and the JUCO OT Monday.

Kirby will have a little pressure on him to be successful in 17, we play ND early, end up with Tech, play AU and MSST rotates in from the West. We return 8 starters on offense and 10 on defense, plus all backups, anything less than 10 wins would get Kirby's seat hot next fall, and Tech better be one of the wins.

I don't now about the odds on favorite to win the East, but I think we will be in the hunt, I think UT takes a big step back, losing their best DB, Best DL, 2 best RB and qb

I get the feeling UGA players, however talented and full of potential, are too spoiled by the UGA community of fans, alumni and students to keep an edge, almost as if becoming a "Dawg" is a crowning achievement all by itself. Too many kids not reaching their fullest due to complacency. Just a vague impression I get. Too much talent for so little result.

I agree was happening under Richt, we are going to have some kids transfer out this year, highly rated kids that started some games for us, at least 3 could be more. I like Mark Richt, I don't think there is a finer man in college athletics. but like you said he had lost his edge, gotten too comfortable in his job and didn't put the work in on the recruiting front or practice field he did the first few years. Kirby may or may not be the answer, but he is a tireless worker. Right now we have 2600+ recruiting points and expecting 5-6 more to finish off the class, our best since Rivals started the rankings. We haven't lost many recruiting battles this year. We are likely going to lose a couple of top instate kids, but they haven't committed elsewhere yet.

No doubt he has to show more than he showed on the field this year. We started 6 different true frosh this year including qb, and 6 true soph,

UGA fans are excited about the direction of the program

And you should be, its an exciting time to be a UK and UGA fan, UF fans even after winning the East 2 years in a row aren't happy and neither are the Vol fans after UT's disappointing seasons.

IMO Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, LSU and Georgia are all going to stay in a constant state of misery as long as Saban rules T-Town. No matter how good their classes, and how good the coaches they hire, they're always going to be disappointed.

Not being a HC before, Kirby is going to have growing pains, just as Stoops did. he will lose a couple of games, he should win, by his own mistakes. The game will move to fast for him, at first.

Agree with your take on UT. Like you guys they have recruited good on paper but I'm not seeing many dominant type players on the field yet from those classes. Might start showing next year but they will need them because losing Dobbs and the defensive guys will hurt. I see them being about what they were this year maybe a step below.

Florida baffles me especially with the their lack of big time skill players like they used to produce. They are an underachieving program lately for sure.
