Mamba Mentality will be a thing way after we are all gone. What a legacy to leave.....it's just such a sad way to leave it. I still can't believe it.

I saw a tweet yesterday by someone who said, "I didn't even know Kobe could die." He obviously prefaced what he was trying to say, but it's kind of the same for me. It just doesn't seem like it's real.

For a lot of guys, their gifts they give the game fade with retirement. Not with Kobe. Like MJ, Bill Russell and a handful of others, those gifts really start to show when they pass the torch. I'm still in just complete and utter shock.

Just saw a video someone posted of the helicopter going down and crashing. I can’t imagine what was going through their minds as it was going down. So sad and so tragic.!

If it’s the same one that’s being shared, it’s not Kobe’s, if you look at the landscape and the helicopter, they’re entirely different. RIP Kobe

My initial reaction to the news was shock and sadness for losing a legend. As tragic as it is, especially with his beautiful 13 year old daughter with so much promise also being lost... The more time removed from learning of the death of Kobe and others (not sure of the actual number), the more I am saddened more for the families of the other ones who lost their lives. We don't even know their names. It doesn't seem fair to have lost your love ones in the crash with an icon only to have them referred to as "and others".

Either way, such a sad and tragic way for families to have their lives turned upside down in a flash. Money certainly does not replace a father's love, but I am thankful that his loved ones left behind will be financially stable. That is one thing a lot of us don't have to leave behind. I lost my best friend in a car accident about 17 years ago. His wife and child were left with nothing to survive off of. That's why it is important to set priorities my brothers.

They’ve actually released the names of several of the other victims. I know they released the names of Gianna’s teammate and parents that were on the helicopter, they’ve also released the name of a girl’s basketball coach that was also on the helicopter and also the name of the pilot of the helicopter. So far I’ve seen the names of 7 of the victims names get released including Kobe and Gianna. Unless I’ve missed posts/articles somewhere there have only been 2 victims whose names haven’t been released yet based on the reports that there were 9 people on board the helicopter.

I totally get what you’re saying, and I’ve heard this argument stated today on talk radio, as well. One of the hosts had a good way of combatting that premise. It’s not that we don’t grieve their loss, or that their loss is any less significant....but to millions and millions of people, Kobe came into our homes 82 nights/season. He won championships. He made life mistakes for the whole world to see. He’s one of the best ever in his profession and many feel as though he was a part of them.

Again, that’s not to diminish any of the other lives lost. Far from it. I know I didn’t tell the story as well as the radio host I was listening to today, but it did make me pause, reflect and realize I’m not feeling selfish because Kobe Bryant was one of the victims and that’s why I’m hurting. Hope that make sense.

I don't know if this is true, but I read that Kobe's wife found out about the crash thru TMZ reporting on Twitter.

That's my understanding also, Mpm. I think I read where a sheriff was disgusted because the family had to hear about this from TMZ. Everything is about getting a story first, damn the consequences, and don't worry about getting much of it wrong...which early reports had his family onboard, then not, then Gigi, 5 people involved, then finally at the end of the day...9 people.

It wouldn't bother me so much on most stories, but when you're dealing with the death of a person (or persons) there should be a little more respect involved in getting the story out ahead of the family knowing about it. But it is what it is.

They just said on ESPN that several NBA players that wore either #8 or #24 will no longer wear those numbers out of respect for Kobe.. Jahlil Okafor is one of the players that will change his jersey number.

That’s very respectful. I could see it either way.....not wear it out of respect, or always wear it out of remmeberance. This is one of those thing that I think 20 years from now, you will remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you heard

I agree, whether players that wear either of his numbers choose to continue to wear them to honor him of choose to change their number out of respect, in the end both choices are respectful and honorable. I’ll definitely remember where I was when I heard the news because I was watching the Pro Bowl and even though I don’t watch the Pro Bowl much anymore, whenever I do from this point on I will always remember that it’s when I heard the news about Kobe.
