Iowa fanbase is midwestern cheap let’s admit it 💰
Cheap? No they are frugal. We were taught to work hard and be thrifty. I've supported the I-club, paid for tickets, travel, hotels, meals for over 40 years. Am I willing to pay these young men unreasonable sums to play college football, heck no. Paying a QB $5M, stupid. Paying a defensive lineman $2M Dumb. Not going to do it.

I am right with you and did the same things to pay Uof I athl dept money, give donations, etc.

The NIL and payment rules are pretty lame but the very loose transfer rules are even crazier. Make up your mind young men after your first transfer then that is it without sitting out a year and losing a year, but that probably wouldnt fly in court as some restraint of trade gooble di gock

Being reported that he is visiting Louisville first, then Texas Tech, and West Virginia.

You have to be absolutely kidding me...

Texas Tech has a bag. The other two? Terrible advice.
Louisville and West Virginia have nothing to offer him in terms of further development or better playoff chances. Texas Tech on the other hand offers truckloads of cash and a chance at the playoffs. Honestly, I'm just relieved it isn't Michigan State poaching another player of ours. But to me this sounds like Koen is looking to get paid. He didn't seem like the type to me, guess I was wrong.

He didn't seem like that type to anyone. Really disappointed... I'm sure it will be Texas Tech but the other two teams are just not good.

Watch him go to TT and be like the South Dakota kid here this year and barely see the field next year or be 2nd string. For the record I have zero clue what their depth is or b ringing back or returning but way they are operating I’m sure he’s not the only one looking to bring in at S.

I'm still just so frustrated he decided to do this. He seemed pretty loyal to the program and I was so thankful when he said he was coming back.

I was listening to the radio tonight between coaching responsibilities for Ben McCollum's weekly show. Someone asked what he would do if a player wanted to come back after testing the portal. He said something to the effect of the second that player has decided they are entering the portal, we are already recruiting someone else and your spot is gone. If you go somewhere for a year and get back into the portal he would maybe consider it.

Dolph said that Kirk must have made a similar comment recently. Why it all matters is that I was hoping some way, some how that KE would be back. We need a guy who can actually tackle.

Barely see the field but cash in on serious money? Not a bad deal at all.

If Koen were to get $1 million he would be making more money than many Americans in the lower 30-40% of earners make in 30-40 years. I am not saying I like this, I dont and not just with this player.

But I cant believe he is getting that kind of money. If he is then this whole thing is skewed and gone off the rails as he is a safety, a very good player but not Bob Sanders.

Aren't teams limited to $20 million per year? $1 million for a CB who isn't "great" seems a stretch

Not at all, that 20 mil is the rev share that schools split up between sports, Iowa probably uses about 15-17 mil for football and the other sports get a few slivers of what's left. Anything beyond is collective based and in TT's case the oil barons are funding another 10-20 million for a total of 30-40 million range for TT's, Indiana's of the world.

No, there is profit sharing and NIL. The profit sharing for football at most schools is 75% of $20.5. NIL portion is, God knows how much. So Iowa has a little over $15M in profit sharing plus maybe $5M of NIL. At Texas Tech, OSU, Oregon, Miami, Texas, etc. the NIL portion is North of $20M plus $15M.

Iowa like many schools can not afford these high priced QB's and power 4 prospects.

Not saying I need to see 1 but I'm suprised in Koen's case there hasn't been some sort of statement released filled with the usual thanking the fans, coaches, and God.

I expected Koen already had his destination in mind, so wonder why no announcement or leak yet?

I think that we need to see how things play out and I don't know what his motivations are in leaving, But that said, his list of schools that he's visiting seems an odd mix and I'll leave it at that.

Pretty much my (our) situation since the early 70s until the las few years.

I see Louisville, Texas Tech and West Virginia. He obviously hopes for T Tech.

Koi Perich come on down....Ah one can dream.
Koi was getting 1 mil from Minny ... he isn't taking a pay cut coming to Iowa, when he can get 4 mil from OhioSt or Miami or USC or Oregon or Texas Tech, even freaking Indiana! Hawks don't have 4 mil in anything but KF and Mary's pension.

This will hurt the secondary yet am I wrong in thinking the last few games I didn't see much production from him, no? Seemed the corners and Lutmer were all over the place and he seemed to be much more involved in earlier games this season...hmm..
Seemed like the corners and Lut were chasing receivers vs all the good teams. That USC pass D was beyond embarrassing. Just pitch and catch and they didn't even have a run game with all their backs injured.

Koen's agent mentioned he heard from the NFL scouts, Koen needed to improve draft choice by learning to play man to man D. Sitting in zone your whole career doesn't help unless just cover the slot like Coop does for the Eagles or get burned like Moss. Bronc fans are calling Riley 'toast', as in burnt.
I’m not buying it. NFL littered over years with how many DBs coached by Parker. Look at Kevon merriweather made Bucs as UDFA and coaches praised for how well Iowa prepared him. Guy like Jake Gervase hung around a few years. With Moss hes still a starter and if he’s so bad why isn’t someone else playing over him. When you are lined up opposite side of All Pro and arguably best CB in game you may see more passes come at you.

As my previous post says he can say what he wants but when TT is on your list tells me it’s all about the $ which more power to him but spare me the other excuses.

I would just state then we cannot blame Kirk for not making the CFP. As long as other teams are willing to do it and their donors and we can't or won't then we need to find another past time to follow or get onto the chores at home that have been stacking up.

Dammit we had that game in the bag. One stupid damn wide open screen pass.
don't get me started, the what ifs in that game are plentiful, probably at least 10 yet that screen pass is top of the list. Bad Gronowski on first drive, stupid rough call and bad D before half for a FG, MG gets hurt, missed screen pass, Lutmer cutback on INT may have resulted in a bigger return, Stevens missed FG, Cover Zero blitz on last drive, GRRRRRR..

I honestly didn't have an issue with the cover 0 blitz. They were practically at midfield, only needing a FG to win, and it was 3rd down so we couldn't let them get anything. The call was right, Lee just missed the tackle and then no one home after that.
