Wasn't he and the UK staff supposed to hook up Wed night, 1/6? Any word on that?

Most UT fans feel like he is going to go out West where he is from...Washington and USC look to be the best west coast offers.

If I'm not mistaken, he contacted the staff yesterday. I couldn't tell you what was said. For the record, because some people will inevitably bring it up, recruits are allowed to initiate contact with coaches during the dead-period.

Don't know or care what UT fans feel but think UK is the longest of long shots and he stays out west.

When it comes to recruits, more often than not, I'm going to assume they're going to pick USC over Kentucky, but you do have to like the fact that Kongbo did call Kentucky (and not USC) the day after he decommitted from Tennessee. Could mean nothing, but it's a positive.

Fwiw, some of the UK recruits are following him on twitter. May mean nothing, but it can't be a bad thing.

Kongbo also followed Boom, and Boom is following him back, now. As you said though, may mean nothing, but it can't be a bad thing.

Gotta look at all of it being positive where he comes here or not.

Whether it means something or not depends on who else he is following. If he is also following players for USC or UT then it means nothing. If he is only following UK guys then it looks really good for us.

If it's for USC, not sure. If it's for UT, I wouldn't agree, because he was committed to them, so surely he followed some while he was committed.

Desperately? Come on.

Actually, yes.

Please tell me where else our pass rush is going to come from? We're probably not going to get him, buy yes, we DESPERATELY need him. I'm pretty sure most of our fans would agree.

You cannot answer that question by assessing the potential of the very young defenders on this squad, but can accept this guy's Juco rep as being transformative?

I wouldn't. We already got a 6'6" 270 DE on the roster that got some valueable snaps last year, Godspeed with health and big things are coming. Can't wait for the season........

Our mods at Volquest are saying Tenn feels like they are still #1 here but he wanted to visit other schools and his parents told him if he was going to do this, he needed to decommit from Tenn first.

I wouldn't make that assumption at all. If we concede recruits like that, we'll never climb the SEC.

100+ schools conceded without even trying. I do not buy that the fans' expectations regarding a longshot decommitted player from UT is impacting UK's climb. But, everyone has a theory.

Top juco football player cuts UK from consideration
Posted by Ben Roberts at 2:00 PM on January 16, 2016

Elite junior-college football prospect Jonathan Kongbo III released a narrowed down list of schools Saturday morning, and UK is no longer in the mix.

Kongbo — the No. 1 juco player in the country, according to Rivals and 247Sports — is now considering Alabama, Florida State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Southern Cal, Tennessee and Washington. He will take an official visit to Alabama next weekend.

UK extended a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-6, 265-pound defensive end from Arizona Western College on Jan. 2, but the Wildcats were always seen as a long shot to land his commitment.

It was possible that he was going to visit this weekend. What happened to that? Just didn't like something and decided not to or what?

Its going to be very difficult to get the out-of-state 5 star type of athletes to come to UK with the way the team has performed the past 3 seasons. Its nice to see UK at least be in the conversation, but there are no moral victories in the recruiting world. Win and they will come.

That's the situation UK finds themselves in...a Catch-22: Need good players to win, have to win to get good players.
