Benedict Kopp--way to go!Played the fewest minutes of any starter, had the worst shooting percentage of any player and missed all of his 3's.
That’s a shamePlayed the fewest minutes of any starter, had the worst shooting percentage of any player and missed all of his 3's.
Shhhhhhh. As fun as the schadenfreude is… isn’t this sort of a direct indictment of Collins and his ability to identify and develop talent? Miller was one of “the next great ones” and now he’s just another name in a list of kids who never came close to meeting expectations.
I know the rankings of Collins recruits are way better, but the teams Carmody was putting out were more effective than what Collins has fielded with “better recruits”.

Well said. He played like horse manure. But for as many people here say we never have even average conference level players, he was impressive enough in practice for the coach to start him.Ridiculous thread after 1 game. He had a bad night, happens. Fact is, he's clearly worked himself into the rotation at Indiana. I don't know if he will remain a starter but he might be looking at a lot of minutes. We should be rooting for him apart from when he plays against us.

I need to know more about the reason for your screen name before I offer an opinion. As fun as the schadenfreude is… isn’t this sort of a direct indictment of Collins and his ability to identify and develop talent? I assume she was class of '69 at Vassar. Don't scare her away. We don't have that many older ladies contributing to the site. Diversity is good.I need to know more about the reason for your screen name before I offer an opinion.
The "Vassar" part is obviously a reference to Johnnie Vassar (the entire episode did not paint our program in the most flattering light) and the "69" part is just a bit of childish raunchiness.I need to know more about the reason for your screen name before I offer an opinion.
Cmon man. The kid had a good run at NU. Dont blame him for graduating.Benedict Kopp--way to go!
I thought he left without his degree.Cmon man. The kid had a good run at NU. Dont blame him for graduating.
How could he pass up an indiana offer? Its not fun losing. He had balls to leave. Why hate?No degree and no balls!
Sounds like you are bitter. Sad. Be a bit more intellectually aware.Played the fewest minutes of any starter, had the worst shooting percentage of any player and missed all of his 3's.
That's actually one of your best posts.Cmon man. The kid had a good run at NU. Dont blame him for graduating.

Heard directly from inside that he was always unhappy and a whiner and they were happy he left. Disappointing career and he ends up with an U of I diploma. ??How could he pass up an indiana offer? Its not fun losing. He had balls to leave. Why hate?
Nevertheless with our luck he’ll probably drop 30 points on us when we play Indiana. The whole Kopp situation sort of feels like Skowronek in football at first… but the difference is Ben made a spectacular catch that sealed a win over Iowa and the Big Ten West in 2018, and if memory serves got injured in garbage time in 2019 when he shouldn’t have been out there. Kopp probably single-handedly cost NU games with his poor shooting and inexplicable FT misses.
To me the last few years Big 10 basketball has been the toughest I’ve ever seen it in my 40+ years of watching. Not sure some of those Carmody teams would have fared as well in the current environmentAs fun as the schadenfreude is… isn’t this sort of a direct indictment of Collins and his ability to identify and develop talent? That may be true but impossible to prove definitively one way or another. It’s a fair enough apples to apples comparison. Both coached for NU in the modern Big Ten. Carmody’s long gone, Collins is our guy now and he’s gotten us to the tourney, but he’s also the only one with the current burden to produce. To me the last few years Big 10 basketball has been the toughest I’ve ever seen it in my 40+ years of watching. Kopp’s a stiff. Glad he’s gone. He was smart to leave because he’d have very few minutes with the current NU squad. From 3 point land, the lads all shot between 33% and 36.5% last season.
Thats Nance, Kopp, Beran, Buie, Audige, Berry and Gaines.
Greer was 8/17 for the season (47%)
Kopp made 10 of his last 50 three-point attempts.
Not sure he’ll do that against top line competition. Took the soft route in terms of competition and conference play.PBJ otoh, in two games avging 20 pts and 10.5 rebounds. Those kinds of numbers would have fit in quite nicely with this group. Too bad UWM didn't fire his Dad so that we could have re-hired him (guess they figured the kid was likely to want to play for his Dad)
Got just 13 points, 3 boards and 1 assist against Florida tonight. He could have taken the easy way and gone to Duke, I give him credit for playing for hs Dad.Not sure he’ll do that against top line competition. Took the soft route in terms of competition and conference play.
No triple double against higher level team! Not sure he has the strength to battle the big boys as a freshman.Got just 13 points, 3 boards and 1 assist against Florida tonight. He could have taken the easy way and gone to Duke, I give him credit for playing for hs Dad.

It’s tough when the opponents entire game plan is stop you. Add to the fact the quality of his teammates. No triple double against higher level team! Not sure he has the strength to battle the big boys as a freshman.
