So a kid who worked hard his whole life to be able to be a D-1 college player cannot play because his “guardian” (not parent) took $2500?? What are we doing here.

I don’t mean to turn this into a whole “pay the players” discussion, but this is stupid. Let the kid play, I’m sure Self would have zero problem cutting the NCAA a personal check for 10 times the amount his guardian received.

I hate Kansas, root for them to lose every game.
I hate the NCAA more, if it wasn’t for my odd obsession with Duke basketball, I wouldn’t give them a cent or a second of my time.

Meanwhile, Roy and UNC cheats for decades and nothing happens .

And unc cheater u got off scott free. There is something terribly wrong in this picture. It makes me despise those smug cheaters even more. The cheaters own the NCAA. Even when they did come down on the football team for selling shoes the players only sat 3 games instead of 4 because one game got cancelled. 4 games is 4 games. How do they keep getting by with that crap. OFC

Agree with every thing about UNC. Simply a disgrace. But it also seems like the majority of KU players are involved with eligibility issues and or crimes on or near campus every year. They should let him play next year for someone else.

Good call. Reminds me of a corrupt government. Everyone in the world knows they are corrupt but can't do a thing about it. They even own the ACC commissioner which by the way is another shady piece of work. There is no way an AD of a conference school , a former athlete and a alumni should have such a powerful position. Nobody should have that power. Who do you think our current ACC commissioner pulls for? How in the world did that happen? OFC

And the current Governor happens to be a Rams Club member and huge fan.

KU has been shady at best for years (since Self got there.) I don't feel bad for them at all. And the NCAA can kiss off too. As far as I'm concerned, they both are shady. Let them bicker

It’s interesting that Mizzou and KU got hit at the same time considering they hate each other. Could see Self and KU AD throwing everything they know about Mizzou at the wall to keep other info from coming out other than De Sousa getting hit personally.

I get that they have to do something to the player otherwise family members would start taking money like crazy. But these penalties are beyond ridiculous. They’re essentially ruining one kid’s dreams due to the actions of someone else. A moderate suspension of 5-10 games, some community service, and/or a donation to charity equal to the amount taken.

Oh, and I’m De Sousa, I’m whooping my uncle’s (or whoever it was) ***.

I can’t believe they declared him ineligible for 2 years for $2500. In the past with such a small amount of money they would’ve suspended him for X number of games and ordered him to pay the money back.

I grew up in Kansas, not far from KU and I can't stand them. Here is what I hope happens: KU gets in trouble for the shady *** things that have allegedly gone on there per the FBI probes (they won't get in trouble, ever despite the phone calls that were shown as evidence), Bill Self says F it, I am going to the NBA (which is rumored to be what he has wanted to do), and the Big 12 falls apart and is absorbed into a few other conferences like what almost happened a few years back. KU was rumored to be an ACC pick up at the time. Let them come here. They would be lucky to win one ACC title every 4 years. None of this silly 14 straight titles BS. A good conference would have parody, not a monopoly of one program winning every year. It's a joke of a conference IMO.

So what exactly is your complaint. Is it because he only got $2500? The fact remains that he chose to go to KU at least in part because someone he was close to got paid off. In this day and age, I am not going to believe he did not know what was happening or that it was wrong. It does not matter whether it was $2500 or $250000. In cases such as this one, the NCAA has no choice but to bring the hammer down as a disincentive to cheating boosters, coaches, players, players’guardians, and parents. The kid should not be permitted to play. It is simple to me. There is a rule that says that money cannot be paid by anyone to influence a kid’s choice of schools, and, when the kid chooses that school, even in part, because of the payment, he should pay the price of a stiff suspension. I am totally down with that rule. The fault in this case lies not with the NCAA but with the kid and his guardian. Also, bear in mind, the kid was not working hard his whole life, he was playing a fricking game. The one thing you are right about is that this incident is not connected to the “pay the players” discussion. It involves only bribery and a willingness to accept a bribe when you know it is wrong. The kid ran the risk of a bad result when he chose Kansas knowing of the bribe or his guardian did. Now they rightfully have to live with it.

Devil, I am mostly in inclined to agree. Kansas ain't Southwrst Missouri State. NCAA must know something more. Remember, although not #1 all time at cheating and getting away with it like UNC, Kansas is probably in the top 5-10. Let's not forget that the kid is still getting a free education. If NCAA feels the school is complicit, let the kid transfer and play right away if he was not involved and it was the adults. Keep the school from using that scholarship for 4 years. That would punish the schools who pretend not to know and make the the guilty agents pariahs.
