Announced after the spring game that he's transferring. He says he will graduate in May, so I assume he's eligible to play this fall. Wonder if he'll have the same list of restrictions that Shaq Wiggins had? I'd really like to see him get a year with Brohm.

He should be able to go wherever he wants. One, because he graduated, and two, he's been the best teammate ever and has handled the LJ situation better than you could ever ask.

Definitely wish him the best. But it's odd that he waited until this late to make the decision. He's known he wouldn't be the starter this year since last season ended. And, it's understandable that he wants to go where he CAN be the starter for his final year. It would have made sense for Kyle to transfer immediately, so he could go through spring training, and allow him the best chance to compete for a starting position somewhere. Regardless, best wishes for the best opportunity for him to show what he's got.

He was close to getting his degree, and now next month he'll get it. He will have his 4 year degree without having to go in debt for it, and they can't take that away from him. Very proud of the young man.

Good luck to Kyle wherever he decides to go. He is a quality young man and will always be a Louisville Cardinal in my book.

Congrats to Bolin on the degree, another reason besides getting a degree to wait this long may be that he was waiting to see who was second behind LJ. Because if the line is as terrible as last season 2nd string qb will get some playing time because you can only run for your life so much as a QB before something happens.

He was not waiting to see who was 2d (after seeing Pass it probably would have been Kyle). He did not want to sit his final year. He was waiting to graduate, so he would be eligible without sitting out a year.

It was already listed that Pass would be the backup to LJ. I think that was a big time mistake because I do think given that both LJ and Pass could get hurt very easy (God forbid). Kyle believed he has the ability to be a starter and I agree, just not here. It's a difficult decision and that's why it might have taken a bit longer.

You don't know that. Kyle might have decided to transfer last December, so that is why Pass was listed as second string. It was pretty obvious the people involved did not want his decision announced, until after the Spring Game.

So why would Kyle go through spring workouts before announcing his decision. He probably thought he have a chance to be the backup but when it looked like that wasn't going to happen, he decided it was best to try and play somewhere else.

Kyle participated in the scrimmage on April 1st going 11-12. If he had already decided to transfer last December he wouldn't have played. He still thought he had a chance.

The simple answer to that is Kyle had to play or buh-bye scholarship. That was not a real attractive option for someone who needs to graduate to transfer and play immediately. It also could explain why he waited, until after the game to announce it. I really don't think Kyle even wanted to be 2d string. He wants to play. I don't blame him.

No he didn't play in the Spring Game because he had decided to transfer by then and didn't want to take reps from players who were going to be at U of L this fall. So clearly the decision was finally made between April 1st and last weekend.

You don't even know what question is being answered. I was responding to why he went through Spring workouts which was YOUR question. Quit = no scholarship for Spring. There is nearly no chance of being injured in Spring as a QB, so you do it to pay for school to allow you to graduate and transfer without having to sit.

Quitting was never an option. He is graduating this spring and in his own words, "has been pondering a transfer all spring"

Here's another reason why your explanation doesn't hold water. Scholarships are for the year and not by semester. His scholarship was for fall 2016 - spring 2017. The only thing contingent to keep his scholarship was go to class. Yeah if he already knew he was going to transfer he could have stopped going to practices but he wouldn't have had his scholarship pulled.

Bottom line is Kyle was recruited over yet he handled it with class, dignity and true sportsmanship. He didn't make a public scene and accepted his fate. He chose to stick around long enough to get his degree which shows he finishes what he starts.

The young man is a winner and I am damn proud he wore the Cardinals uniform. He will always be L1C4 as far as I'm concerned. He will do very well in life. I have zero doubts about that.

I would only say that it wasn't that he was recruited over but that he lost his position to a younger player.

Good point - I have no idea actually. I just assumed that he would transfer to a school that needed a QB.

Are you saying he won't?
Actually, I think he will be the best QB on the team. We will have a highly touted QB coming in this year, but he will still be a freshman. And, who knows how those things play out.
I saw Kyle B.'s film from previous years, and the kid has "juice" his bad luck that a Heisman Trophy winner was also on the team. His abilities will shine at Rutgers. At least we hope.
BTW Rutgers OLine is much better than many think.
Have a great year Cardinals!

From what I've read there's a 3 way competition for QB at Rutgers, but Bolin has more college snaps than the other two combined. The article seemed to indicate everyone expects Bolin to win the job.

Your young guys will learn a ton from Kyle Bolin. He is a born coach and I believe that is the career route he will choose after his year at Rutgers.

He has ok arm strength - there are some throws he's not going to make but, really smart kid and sees the field well. No shortage of confidence either - just needs to be in the right offense. I think he'd be awesome in a West Coast type of scheme.

Good luck to you guys as well.

Spot on. Smart young man who plays with confidence. If he makes a mistake he drives thru it and refocuses. He doesn't pout. I'm sorry to see him go, but fully understand why he chose to.
