He was supposed to take an official to OSU in a few weeks but decided not to bother. We're not privy to how hard schools are really going after guys (i.e., maybe we weren't really pursuing him as a priority or maybe he knew OSU saw him as a fallback), but I can't see picking Butler over OSU or NU if you are choosing among the three. I get why you'd pick OSU as an Ohio kid or pick an NU type school for academics but Butler? Only if Stevens were still there and still an 'if.'
Anyway, yes Ohio State and Purdue REALLY wanted Kyle Young. As an aside, Butler is also going to get Wabissa Bede and Christian David and have a Top 15 class. --- http://247sports.com/Season/2017-Basketball/CompositeTeamRankings
It helps to play in the NCAA Tournament every year and constantly be in the Top 25, you should try that.

The Butler fan simply presented a pretty strong case for a basketball player choosing Butler in response to the dismissive comment about choosing Butler over OSU or NU

You adore Butler, fine, but I'm entitled to my opinion as well.
You may have charitably read it that way, but in my view that humble-bragging, concern-troll from Butler got exactly what he deserved.
